no premium gasoline in SoCal???
I live in California, and I just had a week trip to New York - Boston.
They all had 93 or 98 ultra octane gasoline at regular gas station(Shell, Shevron). How come Southern California have no ultra grade gasoline, even though they have so many high end car in Beverly Hills. Do you know any gas station in LA that has ultra grade gasoline? |

Crap california laws. There are gas stations however that sell 100 octane gas. Its about $8-$10 a gal.

California used to have 92 octane. There was a big debate between 76, who owned the formula for making 92 octane, and everyone else. No one wanted to pay 76 to make 92 octane so they started making 91.
As for the higher octane gas... California uses more premium gas than any other state so they can't make enough higher octane gas to satisfy demand. Here is something Sport Compact Car magazine's Technobabble wrote back in 2001. Quote:

this is your first time you ever noticed this? welcome to the rest of the United States man, out here we not all socialists....lol.
to be productive, yes, agreed, CARB, the local market all plays a part in this. If it matters this much to the citizens of CA, do something about it. BTWm, it's not a SoCal thing...it's a CA thing.

Car runs a lot better on 96-97 mix, by the way. Used to mix when I lived in the South Bay. Much more low end torque.
