Im more of a lurker then a poster on forums unless its to give props to some well done cars. However some post from SOME 335I owners bugs the $hit outta me. Like this one

Maybe we wanted our M3s cause it has one of the BEST N/A V8s out there, laps tracks faster, handles better, brakes better, steers better, looks better, SOUNDS 10x better and has a superior transmission DCT & 6MT then your 335I. So thanks for keeping us informed that you car might be faster then ours.

It's a totally different car with totally different parts. You'd spend a small fortune getting a 335 up to par with an m3 in all regards, at which point you may as well swallow your pride and drive a batshit crazy modded out miata or something.

Most importantly an M3 is something special and a 335 blends in amongst the rest of the ubiquitous 3 series cars.

Having had a FBO 335i I can tell you it will spank an M3 from a dig...but at the top end is where the 3er will fall flat and the M3 walks it... the stabilty of the steering and suspension on the M3 cant be touched without serious suspension mods for the 3er..

Short answer M3 > 335i

So what if some dumb ass thinks his car is somehow better than yours? It doesn't change a thing about how your car drives/accelerates/corners/etc. If this kind of thing bugs you, then you need to work on your self-esteem, because too much of it is wrapped up in the badge stuck to the back of your car.

I'd bet a lot of the 335 / M3 "kills" are when the M3 driver isn't paying attention. You have to wind up the M3 at the line to launch fast. In a typical "street race," it's a roll off the line then stand on it from there. 335 wins every time that way with more torque.

with my previous experience, i rather wait and save $ to buy the top model in that class. No matter how you cut it its still not an M3. Let him act like that in his 335i if it makes himself feel better. Just smile, drive like a grandma and be on your way.

Sometimes i feel that the BMW is getting too much like the honda scene...gotta save up and get a prosche 991 lol

Anyways,
People with no sense shouldn't drive sports car. I get guys in modded 335's and 135's always telling me their car is faster. There are many factors that make a car so much more worth it. A 335 will never make the same grin on face as the M3. It's such old news you shouldn't let it bother you.
