Got the Bank1 throttle actuator out over the weekend and snapped pictures to make a DIY. It's really not that bad of a job to be honest, but there are so many times it got really frustrating due to lack of space! If you know how to take your plenum out, you are about half way there.

The new part should get here today or tomorrow, then will spend the next couple of evenings putting the car back together. Then I'll do a full write-up.

Unfortunately, I did open up the throttle actuator and couldn't really see anything wrong with it physically. Some gears did have some wear, but nothing much at all.

Ive experienced the same errors while reseting the brake pad sensor warning, twice actually, and was told the error message was related to throttle actuator. Looking forward to the DIY

Great news! Limp mode is no more

Honestly, this is not that bad of a job at all. If you know how to take the air box and intake plenum off, you are half way there. I'll write a DIY when I gather all the pics I took.

P.S. I read the dealership quoted over $2k for this job?? What a joke

The code will tell you which bank needs to be replaced.

How do you know it's the throttle actuator? If it is the case for sure, go ahead and order the part, it's the same part for each bank.

If you are somewhat decent with tools, no doubt that this is a DIY job. Don't bother taking it to the dealer. I also recommend investing in a Bavarian Technic tool.

I'll have the DIY in a couple of days.

okay sweet well im not 100% sure if its the throttle actuator but i think it is because i got 2 codes. One of those codes mean throttle valve and the other is throttle controller so im guessing thats leading to the throttle actuator?

2B57 is a limp mode code, basically caused by a malfunction, like below
2B25 is the code I got for throttle valve actuator bank 1

I had 2B21 and that was actuator bank 1. What's the difference with 2B25?

Yea if we can confirm that's throttle actuator, which it sounds like it to me. Do you know how to work on cars? If so, I can help you through it, it's not a bad job at all.

I used my BT tool to clear the check engine codes and so far so good. I read on M5board that the car needs to be reset using Autologic which obviously I didn't. How'd you get the codes read?

I'll get on it with the DIY. Like I said, pretty straight forward, but I've got a few good tips that could speed things up for you. I'd see if the actuators are available, some were saying that they could be on backorder.

2B21 : Throttle Valve Actuator Pre-Drive Check Bank 1

End result of replacing the TVA is the same.

I'll do a write up tonight then. I'm sure you'll be fine. The hardest part was getting the actuator out (and in I guess) of the engine. Working with almost no room. If I had to do it again, 3 hours, 4 hours top.

Him resetting the code should be ok.

No just one will do. If you are looking at the engine from the front of your car, Bank1 will be on your LHS (with coolant reservoir and oil cap). I'd leave the one on bank 2 as is, as you know these puppies aren't cheap

If you needed both done, it would have thrown more codes.
