Beautiful sunrise in Masada. I did that climb years ago and got some shots there as well with rays of light over the Dead Sea.

That was a memorable experience over all. You start the climb at like 4am.

They are the same wheels and tires that come on the Segway X2 off road transporter, and bolt right on to the I2 frame. I wanted to make sure the rig worked before I changed too many things at once. Even with the stock tires, on my first run today, it was pretty adept at handling dirt and gravel. This thing is really going to change my life. I can't wait for bird season now where I can actually have a chance of getting close to areas I could only have dreamed of the last few years...
Dude! You better throw a patten on that thing or something. What a sweet idea! Seems so normal that i'm shocked no one has one on the market. My brother was born with CP and would have loved something off road like that.

Am i understanding that it will function with weight transfer just like a segway?

It is patented. I bought it as a kit. The guy who invented it is a double amputee down in Arizona. It's called the Ally Chair. There are several versions of Segway seats out there, but the market is tiny, and the stuff is expensive, even before you try to certify it as a "medical" product, which it isn't. The guy who builds them basically got discouraged and gave it up as a viable business, but still does orders once in a while for disabled veterans with the parts he has left.

It works just like a normal Segway, lean forward to go forward, lean backward to stop or back up. The handle is used to steer. The other handle deploys the outriggers when you stop and put it into standby for mounting and dismounting.

Sweet Ride! Looking forward to hearing (seeing) how well it rumbles off road.

Sweet rig. Congrats on getting one.

Is it a chick magnet?

I was asked to shoot a VIP tour of the personal observatory that a retired professor from our university has set up in his yard. I was not prepared for the incredible array of huge telescopes he has. These are just two. The "small" one in the foreground has a 42" mirror. The larger one pointing straight up through the roof of the building behind has a 50" mirror waiting to be mounted. It will be the largest privately owned telescope in the world, if I'm not mistaken. I'll post a larger write-up with more pics later.

This should be interesting. Any shots using the telescopes?

Here's a shot I took of the moon from his yard using my paltry 400 5.6 and 1.4x TC. He lives way out in the boonies, so it was nicely dark. It's also chilly tonight, so the air is dry. One of the prof's friends had a normal observation telescope with a 36" mirror set up. the detail on the moon you could see through that was astounding. Sadly, he had no adapter for a camera. I was stuck with my rig for moonshots.

Nicely done...as usual.

All I have to contribute is this weed I found next to the road.

Sadly, no. These telescopes are used for tracking near earth objects which are very (as in very to the 16th power) dim. They have special cameras attached (the black and red box at the top pointing down into the scope) which pick up the faintest light, so pointing them at the moon wouldn't be a good thing. I may get access to the images he collects later. If so, I'll post some.

One more for now. Here are his four observatory buildings and telescopes. Remember, this is a hobbyist. Makes me feel like I've not spent so much on my gear.

That "weed" looks like a "bee plant" that we have in Colorado. Most areas have hundreds of varieties of bees that feed on very specific varieties of plants.

Mark, great moon shot. Shows what clear air will do.
