Snowy snow snow and more snow

I've been driving mine this winter and have been really surprised how well it handles in the snow (with snow tires). Not much powder today, but certainly a lot over the past month.

The car rides great in the snow. I have 18" snow tires and I didn't have any issues last year with the brutal winter we had.

Glad to hear the car rides great in snow. I just threw on my winter wheels recently, glad to have a peace of mind.

I would recommend to avoid that M power mode while on the snow...

Blizzak LM60's

I had M power on and managed to slide over an entire lane this morning with just a gentle throttle blip. Glad it was empty

As long as you are willing to ease off the throttle, the car is very capable in the snow with dedicated winter tires. I'm definitely looking forward to Spring. It will be like having a whole new car all over again.

Even better, take the car out on a frozen lake. BMWCCA does an Ice Gymkhana here every January, with skid pad area and autocross, all on ice. You'll be grinning all day.

They used magnesium chloride up here on the roads, and they use a LOT of it. That mountain pass the picture is from is on Berthoud Pass, and they have huge catch areas all along the downstream side of the pass to try and recollect some of it. This is the headwaters of the Fraser river, the 1st major tributary of the Colorado river, so they try and keep it pristine. This area never had any substantial mining activity, unlike much of the rest of the state, so the water is very pure.

Most of the city of Denver's water supply comes from this river and its feeder streams, too.

I actually don't see rusted out cars up here for the most part. Even down in Houston, where I'm from originally, you'd see a lot of rusted cars from the gulf moisture and salt air (if you lived close to the coast).

That said, I try and avoid most of the days where there is a lot of gunk on the road so I don't get too much pitting from just the gravel and stuff on the road. I'm more concerned about that than any corrosion.

Just put my LM 60s on last weekend. Patiently waiting for a good snow to put them to the test.

BTW
Are there any turns in Texas? I'd pick Colorado any day. Snow is fun, and the mountains are a blast to drive/ride come May/June.

You know, not many, but there are some surprises.

When I lived in Houston the roads that followed the bayous were curvy, and were fun on motorcycles. A bit slow for cars to enjoy.

Out west, there are plenty of curvy roads in the hill country. My favorites were the roads around Fort Davis, and especially the one going up to the McDonald Observatory, and some of the roads near Utopia. Both very, very isolated so they might as well be on another planet.
