Used M3 - When is it too much miles for a purchase?

Hi,

I have been looking at used M3's on the Auto trader. I wanted your opinion on when is the mileage on a used car too much?

I found a few 2008 M3 for $32-36k with mileage of 79k. Future headache or the engine should be great until 150k?

I'd say 79k kilometres is high. 79 miles is just way too much for me to purchase.
Try to find something around 20

Alright ill disagree here. I don't think 79k is too much as long as it was properly maintained. There are multiple members on this forum with mileage like that with no reported issues.

However, I think the price you mentioned it a little high. I bought my m3 back in feb which had only 47k miles for $35k. I would shoot for low 30s or $30k even for that mileage.

No doubt that you can do well with an M3 (or any other car) with high(er) mileage if it was properly maintained, but I was just sayin' that I would not go for one with that high of miles.

Agreed, that price seems high.

One more thing, imo car mileage indicates age for me as well. How many years will it take for you to do that mileage. 4 or 5 let's say. If the car is 3 years old, it is 7 or 8 for me now...

Thanks for the response the car is 2008. I think I will ask for the VIN and goto BMW for a vehicle history report. Do you guys have any other suggestions on what I should look for? The price mention is asking. I think fair would be low 30s. Essentially 4 years almost 20,000 miles a year.

Does anyone know if BMW or a reputable company offer extended warranty coverage? I would like to protect myself if I do choose to go this route.

I don't know if the dealers in the USA make warranty a good use for the customer, but here in Turkey warranty is shit... "owner error" :P
