To good to be true - 2011 m3 w/4k Miles for $45,900

Car:
http://www.carsonlinefree.com/sites/...keA&startRow=1

Dealer site: http://www.kdmotorsale.com/

I found this car on USAA's auto circle and was contemplating buying it because, as you can see the deal is amazing!!

I talked to the owner and they will ship it to me and said since they are an auto-broker and not a dealer he can offer such a low price and still make money.

Any thoughts on this? The carfax from USAA checks out fine. I really want to doubt it is shady because they are a certified USAA dealer but who knows.

Thoughts?

If it sounds too good to be true, then it prob is.

Got to think it is salvage, flood damaged or something like that. Sorry, but you won't find an '11 for this price unless there is a story to it. That is prob like $10K below wholesale.

Buying a car without putting eyes on it is always risky.

Maybe you can find a local mechanic who will look it over and report back for a small fee?

Ya, I am thinking the same. Would there be a way around dodging bad info on the carfax report?

The car has "speed cloth" and no nav. It does however appear to have comp package. With 4k on the clock this definitely seems too good to be true. Try to get the vin and see if someone can pull the service records for you.....GL............Phil

Carfax report is attached. I am going to try and get service records by contacting some local dealers.

Thanks for the help everyone.

To guarantee the BMW warranty is still good on the car, you want to make sure it does not have mods which have that affect.
I would have a BMW dealer do a pre-sale inspection on the car.

Just got off the phone with BMW of north America who were very helpful. They ran the VIN # and all checks out with the existing warranty. Also got service records from the original dealer. I think I am going to pull the trigger on this one.

The price is very low. However, it appears the only options are DCT and ZCP (not that there is anything wrong with that).

Tough decision good luck.

I have mulled over the lack of options for a while and my bottom line is, i am buying it for the engine, transmission, and looks. I wanted 19's, carbon roof, and DCT, all those check out.

The rest would be nice, not ultimately not needed for me to enjoy the car. Also the full warranty all the way through me making payments will be fantastic!

Hope to get it done this weekend. Thanks for everyone's help and hopefully i am an actual m3 owner posting on here soon!

Have them take it to their local BMW dealer and you can call dealership and arrange inspection. It'll cost $180, but a small investment in this situation.

There is a dealer 9 miles away and the inspection should be done tomorrow.

Buyer beware always...! You are either getting an amazing deal or one hell of a headache... By all means, if it completely checks out, then you must jump on this car..! Just make sure you get a thorough inspection, as something does seem a bit odd about this car being at a private dealership with so few miles on it. As a reference, 2011 trade in values are a good $5-6K more than what they are asking...

I truly hope it works out for you, but just be sure to leave no stone unturned before pulling the trigger..

Good Luck with everything!

Thank you very much for the insight. Here is the last communication I got from the dealer:

So if you want to buy it here are the exact steps of this transaction:
-Our Financial Department will prepare for you a Sale Contract and a Bill of Sale(signed and stamped by us) and a purchase Agreement, those are official documents.
-We will send you those papers for you to review it and sign it
-You'll have to send it back to us signed by you(in the moment we'll receive it we will reserve it on your name)
-You'll have to complete the payment via Bank Transfer and send us the receipt from the Bank
-As soon as the funds are available we will start the shipping to your address.
-It will arrive in 5 days tops
-You'll have a 10 days testing period that's already stated in the Sale Contract(The testing period will take place at your location ,the inspection period begins on the working day Monday -Friday after the vehicle have been received and continues for the number of working days set after the vehicle have been received and continues for the number of working days set).
-After the testing period if you decide not to keep it we will take care of the shipping back and you will be refunded(refunds take 3 working days to be processed, and are done on the basis of a "no questions asked'' policy.

At this point I really am not sure what to think. They are dodging my inquiry to get the car checked out at a local dealership in Illinois but at the same time, once it gets to me I can always get it checked by a trusted BMW dealer at my home city and if it doesn't pan out i can send it back per the contract with no questions asked.

I talked to USAA at length about this and they say they extensively vet every dealer in their certified dealer network to ensure all of their members that they are dealing with a trusted dealership, which is where i found the original listing.

Edit:
i told them to send me over the purchasing agreement and other documents and am going to have my lawyer take a look at them.

Hmm. I would be very suspicious of this. They do two of the things most fraudulent car sellers do: Ask for wire transfer, and offer to ship the vehicle. Are you paying for shipping? If not, and they say it's included... I would stay away. And most of all, if it seem to good to be true..... well, you know the rest.

Just my $0.02.

PS: the following is a direct copy/paste from CraigsList. Not that craigslist is a super reliable source... but if anyone knows something about fraudulent car sales... it's them:

How to recognize a vehicle scam attempt on CL:

Shipping a vehicle to you is suggested by seller
eBay Motors or another intermediary is specified by seller
Payment by Western Union or a money wire is requested
Price is unusually low (fraction of blue book value)
If you see these tell-tale signs, flag ad as "prohibited" and avoid

Offers to ship a vehicle are virtually 100% fraudulent

eBay has no involvment in craigslist for sale ads, and any eBay or similar emails or web pages you receive are fake

Never use Western Union or wire transfer to pay for goods - only a scammer will ask for this, and any funds sent will be lost

Do not buy vehicles sight-unseen, regardless of low price. The vehicle does not exist, and any money you send will be lost.

Stories about divorcees or departing servicemen needing to sell quickly at a low price are generally fraudulent

If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Yeah sounds too good to be true like everyone else is stating. Also if you received the vehicle and it did not check out then you would have to pay and ship it back. Why not just get on a plane and go and get it checked out there in person? May be cheaper than possibly shipping the car back in the long run.

I don't understand how they can afford to ship the car to you AND back, if you chose to back out of the deal.

Smells a little funny to me...
