i thought here in US, the oil acceptable oil is TWS which is at dealer or the BMW shops (Tischer, Turner).
All I'm saying is...why risk it for minimum cost savings when there's so much confusion? http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...t=castrol+edge http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...t=castrol+edge |

I usually keep plenty of TWS in my garage...a case or so. But I like to be aware of the alternatives as a just in case. So I don't get caught short one quart and have my heads explode through my hood followed by my pistons being launched out of my block like a rocket into orbit as ottoblotto has warned. |

You will get a red warning on your iDrive if you oil gets too low. It has scary language about permanent damage to your vehicle. I think this warning kicks in right after you go 1 qt low. I got this warning, and immediately pulled off the road added a a full qt, and the warning went away and level indicator was at the top (i.e. not mid).

Just go to any auto parts place and get the closest weight synthetic motor oil i.e. 15w50, 10w40. It is fine for topping off.

I had to do that when I was in the middle-of-nowhere on a Sunday. I ended up with Castrol Edge 10w40. I am sure it was fine, but I made the dealer do a complete flush and refill for free, when I got back home.
