Used ESS VT535

Hey guys about to pull the trigger on a used ESS 535 kit. HOWEVER I am so confused now on pretty much just the tune aspect. I bought the ESS tune with the flash loader and turner test pipes about 6 months ago and to be honest the MAIN reason why I went with ESS was I knew eventually i was going to be supercharged and was told I wouldnt need to buy a tune again.I didn't want to fork out another 1,000+ for a tune! Or so I was told. Now im told that I would need a new tune AGAIN? This is were I get frustrated knowing I spent that G note already on a tune and it's pretty much useless now for the blower. I've read a lot of different threads stating you'll need the E-Flash device now? I would've had this kit sooner but you have to remember after spending thousands you need to fork out at least another 2500$ for install of kit/ tune/ etc. Any help would be appreciated!!

You should contact ESS. The tunes are different for NA vs. FI. I've seen other VT1 kits change hands and the new owner always has to purchase the tune from ESS to go with it.

Used supercharger kits require software for the new owners car which must be purchased from us. When you buy a new supercharger kit the software for it is included in the price you pay for the kit. If you already have one of our E-Flash cables as a previous owner of our NA software you do not have to buy the cable again as it will work with the supercharger software.

Depending on when you bought your NA software if it was within 12 months we also give customers partial credit towards purchasing a new supercharger system. Also keep in mind hadware warranty does not carry over on used kits, they are only valid for the original owner. Always contact us before you buy a used kit if you are unsure or have questions, this way you know what your options are and you know what your total investment is going to be.

Install is a piece of cake on these kits. If you can do basic wrenching you will have no problems. If your still opposed, then contact Sal at AutoCouture (ACM).

I hear ya bud !! Things get hairy/pricy....

But... In the end it's easy to digest knowing the level of performance and safety you get with this kit

Nothing worse than buying something and being disappointed money down the tubs

Add meth & cat less xpipe and you will be at par if not faster than a VT600

So let me get this straight. If you are NA, re-tunes are free right? But if you need a re-tune because you went SC, now you have to pay?

YES and originally I thought if I had already spent the thousand on a tune I wouldnt need to spend another thousand for a SC tune. Its like these kits are already 8+ grand!!

Another member told me that NA re-tunes are NOT free, they are $95. I think Evolve does free re-tunes which led me to assume that ESS does too. Either way, that's lame.

What bugs me is why are these damn tunes so expensive. When I had my Rx-7, dyno and tune for any aftermarket ecu were 300$. Saleen mustang I had... Also tune was 300. Why is it $1k for M? Just because it's a BMW it doesn't mean we should be paying that much when it's pretty much same thing.

We got it pretty good. My buddy with a 2012 turbo s is about to pay 3k -4k for a tune! 6 different companies all quoted him the same. We pay the M tax and he pays Porsche tax...

True but this is the same for everything for this car. Supercharger kits cost 3 times more, exhausts 2+ times more, etc.

I think paying again for a SC tune makes sense. Totally different processes in developing these similar products.

We pay more because it is a BMW. BMW uses a sophisticated ECU and doesn't release many specifics. So tuners need to figure everything out. Which on an RX7 may be relatively simple but an RX7 doesn't have double VANOS, 8400rpm redline, and an ECU that does millions of calculations per second...not to mention an RX7 is not nearly as complex as an M3.

The reason it costs so much is because WE CONTINUE TO PAY FOR IT. Supply and demand. These companies would go under, or be forced to lower there prices if a suitable contender entered the market and offered similar parts at a
reasonable price. That being said, I'm going into business for aftermarket BMW parts, the markup is HUGE!
