+1

Finally somebody understands that BMW is trying to SELL CARS with the new M3... Enthusiasts like us need to be kept happy, but we're definitely the minority of the buying population

That being said, I'm very interested in the E90 M3 - and I currently drive a pretty "hardcore" car by most people's standards

Because that isn't correct?

It at least laps the 'ring in less than 8:10.

This coming from him means more than 15 random "journalists" posting their pointless comments when they have no knowledge on cars or performance.
I was wondering how fast the new M3 does the quarter mile in.
I know that it goes 0-62 in 4.8 which is basically the same as the E46 M but
I figure that after that it will really climb through the gears.
Do we have a set 1/4 time as of yet?

i think the man talks alot of sense. I for one will never be tracking my M3 and I'm sure it'll be plenty fast enough for our little full up uk roads. Neverteless I still thought that i was going to reading reviews along the lines of 'this car rewrites the rules' - so it's hard not to be just a tiny bit deflated.

I think we can disregard the comment about 'ring times...

Interesting also that Tom Ford is drawing his inspiration from internet forums despite the fact he has actually driven the car...

But he does at least realise (unlike many others, apparently) that the M3 is a derivative both of its predecessor and the standard E92. Expecting an improvement on both is reasonable - expecting something tangential is not.

There is nothing like putting one's money where one's mouth is. I don't know how many journalists actually own M3's but I still believe the most telling comment is that of SteveD who said he would choose the E92 M3 above his E46 CSL (or words to that effect). In the same vein I'm still looking forward to taking delivery!

5th Gear this series and last have been terrible. That stupid Lovejoy bloke last season really ruined it, and the diner set is aweful.

Tom and Vicki host this past series, and it was okay, but I'd rather watch Tiff do laps and powerslides in Ferrari and only occasionally look at VBH's breasts.

I agree with the blog. I will not do any track time as there are no tracks in my country. I need a good fast road car and as I do a lot of long distance driving, refinement too. This M3 ticks all the right boxes for me. BMW should do a CSL for the track enthusiasts and leave the standard 'soft' version for the rest of us non-trackers

I think 5th gear has been better this season than the past season. Remember the girls slapping their buttocks on the limo eposide? I think it has gone a little soft and focused more on entertainment, similar to top gear, than car reviews. I wish Tiff is back on Top gear. He is such a good driver.

Why not buy a Merc, Audi or Lexus for that purpose? They are great touring cars with good suspension and more modern interior. The AMG, S and F classe for each respective family are very fast and more refined, as in luxury, cars than BMWs. They make great long distance cruisers without the soft bouncy ride like American cars.

Bmw has always been praised its focus on handling and this is especially true for its M family. If it dillute its brand then it will be no different than its competitors. My question is, are buyers similar to you buying the car for the BMW marquee because it represents a driver's car?

I feel the same way as you Tee-Tom
I love the way the new m3 looks as well as the performance aspects, but i feel the interior is worlds away from lexus, audi and mercedes. just doesnt do it for me.
And we know that BMW is trying to cater to a more open broad audience but im still concerned with suspension as far as bumpiness and road noise. I know that many M owners could care less about that but i feel if im going to be spending 70k on a car I want something that is going to give me the "full" experience including a luxurious comftorable interior with a smooth ride when i want it.
Thats why right now im definately considering the Audi s5.
I would be considering the Lexus and Merc as well but I need a 6 speed and for some god forsaken reason they dont like them

Yes I do. Not sure if you're saying that is a good or bad thing?

If I want to watch a programme with sexy girls in it, I will tune in to the appropriate channel. I want cars on a car programme.

Too much trivial and irrelevent stuff filling the programme. They are trying to copy Top Gear but they obviously have a fraction of their budget.

Typical example. On one of the last programmes about a month ago, they said they were going to test the new X5. Cue lots of plugs for this "exclusive" test thoughout the whole programme. When it was eventually on they decided to test it by pulling a wake-boarder along by the side of a lake, with the X5 replacing the boat. So instead of actually seeing the car all we saw was 'cool' shots of someone wake-boarding. They hardly featured the X5.

The week before they had the 911 GT3RS, with Tiff driving. They plugged this throughout the whole programme again, and what we eventually got was about 2 minutes tagged on at the end. Meanwhile, the rest of the programme was filled with utter tosh.
