Those who have rev limit increase... quick question?
So does the rev limit increase on the tachometer IE the red and yellow indicators do they change?

I have the Dinan D900-40M software.
http://www.dinancars.com/shop/D900-4...re.aspx#page=1 Redline on my tach (start of red region) is normally around 8,250 sitting at idle, which I find curious as their site says its raised to 8,600.

The tach on the M3 does not indicate actual revs. The M3 cluster was taken straight out of the E60 M5. This is why we see a red line at 8250RPM (the M5 red line). The engines revs are corrected so that when the needle hits an indicated 8250 the engine is actualy spinning at 8400RPM (the M3 red line). You can actually see this by accessing the hidden menu and look at actual revs.
So the OP question is very pertinent. With an increased cut off to 8600RPM, does the needle on the tacho go past 8250 or does an indicated 8250 now correlate to an actual 8600RPM? |

As further affirmation, my redline is raised and yes it still exceeds "redline" on a regular basis

I mean does the needle visibly go past the 8500 mark? Thats quite a bit of red lol. I mean when I shift at 8400 it appears as if the needle dips slightly past that mark as the car is shifting.

On a side note, when I asked Sal to increase my limit to 8600 he told me 8500 was more than enough ![]() ![]()

You could be right. All I know is I can pass the original red line if I want but rarely do even while on track. I usually shift at around 8000 and often short shift even further on certain sections of the track so I'm not executing a shift while mid corner and unsettle the car.

This is correct. The ultimate 8250RPM red line on tacho is fixed and is not part of the variable red line mechanism.

Why do people increase their redline? Is it really worth it? Any dyno graphs to support it? Sorry to derail; just curious.

b) the higher resulting rev in the next gear when you shift up will likely give you better acceleration due to more power being available. |
