M3 to 1m? Never looked back?

270 and you will limp...that is truth on the n54..i love the engine but that is its kryptonite..def not a track engine outta the box....

Well as I said here I'm not going to try and convince anyone here that the 1M is what the M3 once was, and that on most tracks, which don't have long straights a ways the 1M can do better on some and stay close to the M3 on others, look it up.

The 1M N54B30T0 will pull out of a corner faster then an M3, its just facts and figures, 370tq @ 1500rpm vs 295tq @ 3900rpm and 400 pounds less.

This BLATANT lying about the 1M and heat soak is ridiculous. There have been ZERO reported issues of limp mode due to heat issues on the 1M with guys running all day on the track in 100F weather. I was in 85F weather on the track all day no issues. They have addressed heat issues on the 1M.

Great you passed a 1M on the track, I passed a GTR the other day does that mean the 1M is faster, no. That wasn't my point.

Glad you love your M3, but don't go lying about other cars to make yourself feel good.

i drove a 1m and M3 back to back on the same track. i absolutely loved the 1M - light, super tossable, maybe a bit more fun than the M3. but the M3 was on a whole other level. despite the weight it felt so much more capable and i felt like my limits were much higher with the car. factor in DCT and the gap grows larger.

the 1M performed like a champ on the track, no issues whatsoever, but it was a cool day (around 60-65 F)

i'm not a 1-hater either, i owned a launch-year 135i and loved it, even though i knew it wasn't for everyone. i only sold it to get the M3.

I'm not the one who said the 1M has heat issues but it doesn't surprise me if it does.

I'm glad you like your 1M but if you got it over the M3 because you thought the 1M is a better track car then sucks to be you because all you got is an ugly ass car. Try to do 2:15 in your 1M at VIR on street tires then we'll talk.

Just a quick point, technologically speaking (and believe cars are technology) one would never want what something "once" was like wanting a commodore 64. The "good ole days" are more about just being younger than anything being better. Also,I second others statements, as I have still yet to see a single 1M on track and I'm out there on average every 2 weeks as seasonally permitted, but then again only see a handful of E9x M3's... A miata is smaller, more "toss able" and arguably more fun too, but I sure don't want one

I've watched that video and I can appreciate it more than you ever could because I've driven the Nurburgring with my M3. Given the same driver, the M3 would kill a 1M on the Ring every time. Showing a video of a professional race car driver passing some tourist in a M3 shows how weak your argument is. What have you done with your 1M for you to come to the conclusion that it is a better track car than a M3? You got nothing.

No idea why people cling to defend their cars with BS videos of OTHER people racing. What the car can do in the hands of others is no indication of what it can do in YOUR hands.

I've never tracked my car, so I don't know what it is capable of in MY hands. There, it's not so hard to admit it. So I won't come in here and bash the 1M for being a slow car, because I'm no track rat in my M3. It's just silly to make up stuff just to be argumentative and then post "evidence" in the form of pro racers passing amateurs, lol...

I track my leased 2010 BMW 335i w/ the N54 motor> My oil temps have never exceeded 250. This is tracking at 100 degrees in the SoCal deserts. 18-19 psi of boost, meth, dps and dci. Pulled on a 669 HP tuned CLS and a 580 HP M6 on the back straights of Big Willow. I have an LSD, coils and tires. ZERO other mods.

Lease is coming due and I would have purchased a 1M had they been available (would have gone with the Vishnu single turbo @ near 700 HP for $6,750!!) but no luck so I went with the M3.

just b.c a car has a better track time doesn't always mean its the better track car. I know that sounds stupid, but do you consider a panamera, m5, or a cts-v a track car? yes those are fast as shit cars, but not the most fun track cars in my mind.

I love lightweight cars. IMHO when tracking becomes important, weight is one of the most important factors.

Granted i don't think the 1M is the best car either (even at 33xx lbs) it's too heavy. IMHO sub-3000 lbs is the best starting point for a track car.
