Phil,

Might want to check to see if they have a minor waiver form that the parent/guardian needs to fill out. I know some tracks and clubs require this.

We will indeed run in the rain......we did GSS in the rain and had a blast. And where did you order the mic from? I've been thinking about getting one. I am definitely going to pick up the LCD screen for my Hero 2 before the event.........Phil

It's quite helpful!

I'm not quite sure how you guys used the GoPro's prior to have an LCD bac-pac? Where you just taking a hopeful guess at what would be in the field of view?

I've been experimenting with the Wifi back-pac, too. Quite useful...basically, once you've got the brackets "set" using the LCD for aiming, I switch out the back piece and swap the LCD for the Wifi unit. Then you just fire the camera when you want, without having to reach over (or outside) to press the physical button. The wrist-unit lets you know if you're actually filming, and at what specific setting.

I've got the LCD backpack, and sometimes use it the same way you do - for setting the viewing angle ahead of filming. Then I pop the battery backpack on just in case. (because I HATE running out of power). But mostly I just eyeball the angle, and have never been terribly far off (so far)

Does the WiFi backpack chew up much power?

Phil - I got the mic off of Amazon.

The WiFi backpac has it's own battery, so it doesn't affect the GoPro2 that much. Seems like I can do a four-hour drive, intermittently using the Wifi packpac and wrist-mounted control, without a recharge problem. In late August, GoPro is supposed to release the iPhone app which will negate the need for LCD because you'll be able to stream live video from the WiFi backpac direct to the smartphone for visual cues. In this case, I also picked up a skeleton case and their cigarette-lighter->dual USB plug so that it can be powered. (doing a ///M3 drive to Big Bend National Park next week)

Hard wire and mounted to the roll bar. Just run a test video and you're set next time.

BTW, I might try to show up and just say "hi" at this event. Seems like fun!
