My 40K Mile Ode to the M3

This is a follow up to my 35K mile Ode: http://www.m3post.com/forums/search....rchid=23537136

My M3 has been a "tool" for greater things in the last 5,000 miles.

One of my biggest moments of joy has been the smiles on my friends' faces when they drive my car. I feel truly priviliged to be able to help someone have a cool driving experience.

I've experienced how the M3 can brighten a work day as as commuter, as I've always been able to walk or bike to work. A bad day is alleviated on the drive back home, and the drive to work reminds me of what I am working for.

Finally, the car has made me a better driver. Watkins Glen has become my home track of sorts and I moved to the advanced run group last week. I now feel like I am driving my car to about 90% of its potential in stock form. Nothing compares to the feeling of driving back home after a wicked track session, and admiring the "battle scars" of scrubbed tires and melted tire on my bumper.

My car isn't mint and is essentially stock, but with every mile, I've come to realize that it works the best for me as is.

Here is to another 40K miles. Happy motoring chaps

For the OP, I'm curious, any problems thus far? Replaced anything?

I couldn't agree more!

Just curious, do you run stock brakes at the track?

I m curious too, about the battle scars you mentioned; any trouble getting them off?

I intend to autox and/or track my E92M occasionally (only got 1400km so far). With my previous car (AP2) that I only autox in, I get a proud feeling to have battle scars on it so I know what you mean I never got any actual damage so could always get them off, just wondering your case with melted rubber from tracking.

Stock brakes were worn, so I upgraded to stoptech 355s with street performance pads. I really should swap in track pads, but that will be the next step.

A good claying and or compounding will remove the tire cheese.

Long term experience

I had the first e92 in Oregon (3/08), but still at only 42k. It's my DD though, and puts a smile on my face on my 9 mile commute every day. Aftermarket exhaust, wheels and suspension put it just right. No real issues so far.

After taking my friend for a drive, he honestly thinks his IS 250 is superior to my M3. I almost opened the door and kicked him out
