Castrol TWS

Just picked up a few liters at the dealership as I was getting a low engine oil warning. I asked for the 10w-60 M oil and the bottles I received look different than they used to. It says its "Castrol Edge" 10w-60 and says on the back it's for BMW M cars. I remember the bottle saying TWS and not edge. The part # is 83122219730.

Did they change the bottle and is this the right stuff?

I'm pretty sure that Castrol has renamed many of their products recently. I think you should be good.

Don't worry. Their SRF brake fluid has changed bottle styles a few times recently too.

Yep--they changed the label on the bottle. I just got a couple the other day from the dealer and noticed the same thing. Still says TWS in small letters at the bottom, though.

For once, NY prices aren't the highest--my dealer charges around $14-15 a bottle, and then I get a 10% BMW CCA discount off of that...

If anyone local wants any, let me know

I have 4 unopened bottles, 2 opened ones (1 is 3/4 full, the other is about 1/3 full).

Locals only as I cannot ship oil.

We have been using the Edge branded 10w60 in Europe for a few years now. It's exactly the same as TWS.

However, there is an even newer version of TWS now called Edge professional. It's supposed to be an improved TWS, but I'm not sure exactly where the improvements are.

Both bottles for comparison.

I believe that "Edge professional" is the brand label reserved for Castrol M car Oil provided directly to BMW.
Same oil as non professional Edge oil....you can always ring Castrol Tech support - they are always super helpful.

yes, we're aware of this from the other oil threads. But here in the US, there's massive confusion at this point.

1. In the recent past, we could only purchase TWS from dealers or BMW performance shops.

2. Castrol release Edge line of oil found in auto parts stores. But we continue to buy TWS at dealer/performance shops.

3. Now this, dealers made the switch to Edge. I want to see the label of dealer's Edge bottles. It should say "approved for, Z4M, M3, M5, M6, Z8." something along this line. I have a feeling the off-the-shelf Edge in the US doesn't have the "approval" label.

can we see a pic of the back label? thanks.

I just noticed, it actually says "Edge Professional", which is likely safe to say are dealer-oils to sell to us for the M cars. I guess the confusion is, if you buy "Edge" non-professional off-the-shelf, is it the same oil?

Off the shelf 'Edge' 10w60 definitely has approved for M cars on the label. Just don't get the 'Edge Sport' 10w60 which is the non approved version.

In England/Europe, yes, but "Edge" 10-60 has never been at auto-parts stores in US. I'm still not sure if they ever will sell "Edge" or "Edge Professional" 10W-60 in stores. They already have "Edge" 10W-30 and others in stores in US

Agreed on the "Edge Sport". Not approved.

In the USA, we can not get Castrol 10w60 oil at any local retailers. It is only available at the BMW dealer and there is only 1 version.

That must be a major headache. At least it's cheaper in USA

from my understanding... they have been labeling the new Castrol Edge with Edge Professional. Even the one in Walmart is labeled professional (FYI not the 10w 60 but the regular oil is marked as professional. Sounds like they are changing the oil a bit for better use....

not sure if they will still produce the edge or edge sport but definately i have not seen the edge or edge sport in our local auto shop... unless they have old stock.
