BIMMERPOST NEWSBMW i8 Price Will Top €100,000 Much is already known about the BMW i8 (coupe details / spyder details), but its pricing when it hits the market in 2014 has been the stuff of speculations only. We previously estimated that the i8 would be priced at over €100,000 (Euro) and this has now been confirmed by Ian Robertson, BMW's head of sales and marketing in Germany and a board member of BMW North America. Speaking to reporters at the grand opening of the world's first BMW i Store in London, he confirms that the i8 will sell for "more than €100,000" (approximately $125,000 USD at current conversion rates) in Europe. Although this pricing doesn't come as a surprise, it is the first time that BMW officials have confirmed any target price range. Robertson did not provide any pricing estimate for the BMW i3 subcompact electric car (official details), and only said that its price will be "very competitively for the substance you get". The i3 launches next year. The German company is spending 530 million euros in developing the "i" sub-brand. via Bloomberg Some photos from the world's first BMW i Store in London. Id be suprised if they could sell a lot of these at a price point (100K+) that BMW seems to struggle since at that price point not many care about fuel economy and there are many cars to be had at that price.

+1 one can get a new fully optioned F10 M5 for less. I appreciate BMW's initiative and forward thinking, but for that cost and fuel efficiency, there are more affordable cars.

People who buy cars like the R8 often only do it to show status. What in the world is a better status obeject than a over 100,000€ electric sports car from BMW?

This car may do better than some of you guys think. Take a look at the Fisker Karma and the Tesla Roaster.
While I don't think these will attract a lot of BMW's core buyers, it will draw new people to the roundel who would typically purchase the previously mentioned cars. Also the reliability and peace of mind knowing that the brand is not going to vanish when it's shareholders cut and run is reassuring too.

Sorry to burst the train of negativity in how the i8 is over-priced and will not appeal to the masses.
Porsche is doing the exact same thing with the Porsche 918 Spyder and the last I heard was they are completely sold out. I can see the i8 being a huge success, but similar to that of the Veyron where the profits will never recover the cost of R&D.

Porsche created a masterpiece in the 918 that has set the bar for what a performance hybrid will be. You simply cannot compare that to the i8 which by comparison isnt even close to it in any way, shape, or form. The 918 did sell out, and very quickly but thats not a surprise to anyone since you probably wont see any hybrid with this type of look or performance for a long, long time and its a Porsche to boot. |

As this is the first truly forward-thinking car for BMW, I am sure they'll sell many.
My father has already proclaimed he'll buy one, so there's one customer!

I find the i8 as a production car a bit silly. It's great as an "Efficient Dynamics" concept, but as a street car, it's a Disney parade light show...
and this guy is driving... .

I'd flat out buy one right now at $120,000 if I could even get an allocation. Call me stupid, but I think that car looks awesome, and straight out of a sci-fi movie.

How much is a 2012 911 Carrera S decently optioned? How much is an R8? At $125k + 10k in options,this car is a bargain. I'm in.

You can't compare the i8 to an R8 or a 911. They're in different leagues. Sure, it might be able to get to 60 in under 5 seconds, but I bet it's going to be disappointing after 60.
