Is the new M5 (F10) sporty enough? (M5 vs. M3)
Debating on replacing my current M3 (E90) with a new M5 (F10) so the vs. is in effect.
My question for discussion, is the new M5 sporty enough? You get looks, compliments, the feel of a sports car in an M3. Would you get the same reactions/feeling if you were driving an M5. Or is the larger Sedan too much luxury and not enough sport? Not that I am looking for attention per se, but I surely don't want people to take me for a middle aged business man in "oh he drives a 5 series sedan, boring!" (until they get smoked by the twin turbo V8). Your thoughts?? |

M5 is less attention grabbing than an M3 to the layman IMHO. It is also a heavy car, and there is only so much that can be done to mask that in the handling department. Will surely make you giggle when accelerating though.

Truthfully looking at other non BMW options too, i.e. Porsche, Masarati, etc. Its hard to find what the "next level" of sports car is tho when compared to M's without getting into the mid to high $100k's.

As far as looks are concerned, u tend to get stares from slightly older people esp the regular F10 driving crowd. If u are ready to move on to something more executive, u can't go wrong with the M5.

I remember when the E9x M3 first came out, it lost to the E46 M3 and even RS4. Unless u can be sure the reviewers are impartial, reviews can pretty much go any way with any car depending on the agenda of the publication. Most reviews between the M5 and competition found the M5 superior in driving dynamics and marginally faster in the straights. U do get freak result in the recent battle against the S6, but that review is a suspect in my opinion. I know for sure the next M3 will not crush its competition in the straights. The current C63 with power pack is already quite a lot faster than the current M3 and sits nicely in the middle ground between the current M3 and the F10 M5. BMW will not allow the next M3 to be too close to the M5 in the straights.

Yep. Hard to beat what the M3 has to offer south of $100k. There is a reason this car has gained legendary status.
