Oem exhaust internal metals?
Folks, does anyone know for sure what type of steel the internal chambers are made from on our OEM mufflers (E90 M3)?
I'm planning to do the oem mod tomorrow and am concerned about cutting out one type of metal and welding in a different type that contracts and expands at different rates which would lead to premature fatigue. Also, with respect to the weld, has anyone had any problems with the welds cracking since they most likely are not using the same metal as what you are welding? |

Found a great muffler guy, but he deals mainly with aluminized steel. I am wondering if it is a huge deal to cut out the perforated pipe and replace with aluminized steel.
I know stainless is ideal, but getting it is a pain it seems. Let me know if I'm crazy for considering using the aluminized steel. |
