OP ..Why stop at the v8..i believe the early model e46 came with the W16 engine..install is a little tricky as you have to delete the hood fenders and front bumper..but the weight reduction is well worth it.

If you really have to do that, i suggest you wait for the 2014 M3. It will be a V12 tri turbo engine with 650 HP and its same size as the e46 and e92 v8.

E9x is a V8?

Man, if you really want to live your life 1/4 mile at a time, you should go for a GTI or civic SI, those are real beast of street life. You can smoke the shit out of an M3 on any drag, just put a cold air intake, and some nice exhaust on it! Make sure to add racing stripes, so everyone knows that you mean buisness! I tell you, much better deal!
Or, get a camaro, or a mustang, who cares about turns... phew... back on the streets that don't matter!

Actually any BMW designed for I6's have long but very narrow space under the hood. Wide engines like S65 can't fit without some serious modification. Smaller V8's like LSx sit easier and as you said it's best bang for the buck.

If Hamann managed to put the M5 v10 into an e92, surely putting the e92 v8 into an e46 should be no problem. After all, Hamann only charges in excess of $100k for this procedure, labor only.

No the S65 is the smaller v8 it is only 4 liters and the LS's are 6+ liters. Dunno about width differences but the vette motors are 50%+ bigger displacement. But yeah, you'd have to have cash to burn to try a S65 conversion when there are LS3's available for relatively cheap that make the same hp and more torque.

as we all know you can fit 2 E46 engines into an E92
46 + 46 = 92!!
but you can't fit an E92 engine into an E46!
duh!!

I am unsure how to modify the instrument cluster however as the Duramax has a redline of 3450RPM. I really appreciate any help someone can provide myself and JOSHYb23, thanks in advance.

Does that have a Hemi?

The difference is that both chassis in your example are designed to house V layout engines. OP wants to put a V layout engine into an I layout chassis. Very different.

You're not serious are you? Everyone here (except for OP maybe) knows that the LS motors have significantly more displacement. That doesn't necessarily make them larger dimensionally. The LS motors are particularly small on the OUTSIDE due to their push rod, OHV design.
