Which gearbox you have is totally irrelevant. Even if you leave a MT in gear its not going to make it stop quicker or slower. Adding extra engine braking is not going to make the car stop any quicker as the rear ABS sensors will already be modulating the brake pressure to keep the preset maximum deceleration level of the rear wheels at the brink of locking up. The biggest mistake you can make when emergency braking is to slightly relax the pedal when you feel it pulsing.
And why it is that its always the newbie drivers that have to mouth off the most about which is better DCT or MT? (as if one actually is better than the other).
That is just flat out wrong. Full ABS is better than skidding four locked up tires, but it's nowhere near the stopping power of threshold braking. When I tried to see how late I could brake into T2 at Laguna, ABS would kick in if I over braked or hit a bump wrong. When that happened I would miss my turn in and have to throw away the corner.

Even though I used to drive a DCT M3, the fun of rowing yourself makes the manual my choice for a sporting car.

And my final comment on 6MT:
As described in my post above, when trail braking for a turn and downshifting while heel-n-toein' a driver is performing 5 physical actions with four appendages while cognitively planning for the corner exit and possibly even checking the mirror for that faster DCT equipped car that's about to pass, while the DCT driver is eating a hamburger and getting a BJ.

Don't forget the Helmet too!

If you get pulled over and the Cop asks why you have the helmet, say "Safety 1st"

Might as well toss on a flame resistant racing suit if we're going to use a helmut!

check list before driving to grocery store:

1st and the most important! M3 with DCT
2.racing gloves
3.racing shoes
4.helmut
5.fire suit
6.roll cage if E93
7.fire extinguisher (just in case)
8.check tire pressure
9.check all lights, tails, turn signals etc.
10.blue tooth ready for hands free driving

I issue a challenge/mission to anyone (this will district in 30 seconds

1) You with the MT try to match the accuracy that the M-DCT will shift (you might ask how do I do this? Well first drive a M-DCT then memorize the RPM point when a M-DCT would change the gear then see how well you do).

2) You with the M-DCT pretent you are driving a MT (hand on the stick or paddles and prevent to shift and see how far out you are).

Now let us leave this subject alone once and for all ...

and wish the Fellows at the ///M Division a Happy 40th Birthday

Kinda amuses me being old, all this I'm a studmiffin cause I drive a stick stuff. Hell my mom could do a decent rev match, how else was she going to get the truck to the store and back when it couldn't be downshifted without them? Same for my sisters. EVERYONE coud drive a stick. Different nowdays I guess, folks feel like they accomplished something if they actually made a manual car roll without killing the engine. Whatever.

Wanna impress me then do something that shows real skills like opening the trunk 10 consecutive times using the key fob without setting off the alarm. Do that and I'll be impressed.

B. With DCT, you're not conscious of your speed, RPM and gear?? You must think ALL DCT's are driven in full auto mode at all times.
C. This applies to both sides - especially to the sophomoric verbiage.

You should get a Prius. Play it completely safe.

On second thought... the road is a very dangerous place. Stick with the bicycle.

I actually like both you know, as you know my former two M3's were MT. I just love the accuracy of the M-DCT a master piece of engineering ... I truly mean this ... mind you I do pretend to shift the gears my index finger touches the stick in motioning to shift let's call it mind games

Lots of idiots in this thread, huh? OP is a moron. The guy who said just keeping the brake slammed and letting ABS handle the rest is an even bigger idiot.

Big Picture: You live in San Francisco, get the DCT. Negotiating those hills with a manual? Yeah, DCT would be safer for you.

Perhaps the OP doesn't know how to drive manual?
Here are the steps:
1) Turn on the engine by placing your feet on the brake and clutch pedals while in neutral
2) Put into 1st gear while your left foot is still on the clutch
3) Slowly depress the clutch pedal while pressing at the same rate the gas pedal
4) To get into 2nd gear and the rest just depress the gas pedal and press the clutch pedal in while up-shifting.
5) Press on the gas again

Now here come some of the controversial things.
To slow down the car:
Say you're going 40 mph in 5th gear:
1) Press in the clutch and brake pedal simultaneously and if you constantly have your left foot on the clutch, just leave it in the current gear and you'll slow down
2) Or press in the clutch and brake pedal and downshift to 4th at around 35, 3rd at 20, and 2nd around 15 until 0 mph. You generally do not want to downshift all the way down to 1st when slowing down but there's no rule saying you cannot.

Disclaimer: I last drove a manual transmission car several years ago so excuse me if I messed up some of the steps and please correct them if I have.
