Imagine a 90 year old driving a 6MT vs a DCT. Speaking only of the transmission, which is more likely to lead to a problem or even an accident?
Projectile has the right idea. Put it this way. If it was your girlfriend or wife behind the wheel, would you prefer she be driving a 6MT or DCT? I think it's pretty obvious the easier way is is better even if marginally so...

Where as in a manual in netural, you will only be stopping the cars momentum.

That said, after 20years in a manual, I now drive a DCT and couldn't be happier. Since I don't think you have enough experience in a manual, I suggest you get DCT.
LOL, put down the pipe, son.

Agreed. My DCT is my first auto car.... And who buys an m for safety anyway? Lol

Yeah, as some one else said, BMW made DCT M3s so women could buy M3s as well lol jk

But in all seriousness, I think you need a driving lesson in an MT car, because it seems like you don't know some basic knowledge about MT.

Yes, the current F1 drivers are all a bunch of pxxsies compared to Senna et al., who drove brilliantly with their own hands and feet instead of relying on a computer to control practically everything.

Yes, as a matter of fact it does. Anyone can drive a DCT. You have to be a decent driver to drive the manual well. That's why girls respect guys who can handle their stick.

Better words have never been said in this thread!
That's why all of us, including current F1 drivers, have so much respect for guys back then, like Senna, who used to handle over 1,000hp machine with manual transmission.

I agree that DCT's are very fast with great level of precision, but manual transmission teaches people the ultimate control of cars. I think everyone should learn to drive in manual transmission, and at the point where skills have to be supported with technology, they should move onto something awesome like DCT.
That's why I still drive a 6MT M3

Agreed. In the perfect world I would have one of each and choose what I want to drive on a given day. That said, both my M3 and 135i are manual so I guess I get to drive a 6MT everyday! If I wanted to be lazy I just drive my wife's automatic 335i. Problem solved.

That's like saying "yeah I have much respect for Michael Johnson. He used race people with his feet, not like these cheaters that race in automobiles.."

Would you agree that the likelihood of rear ending someone is greater when driving a 6MT over a DCT in the M3? As someone with about one and half years of 6MT experience, I say yes it is more likely that a driver will rear end someone when driving a 6MT simply because it takes more coordination to stop a vehicle on short notice. Then again, when braking I usually disengage the gear and put in neutral before coming to a full stop. I’ve noticed some people just step on the brake like it was an automatic and then pop it out of gear right before the car comes to a full stop. My fear in doing that is becoming rear ended when the car stalls on the freeway!
Totally disagree. My M3 is a manual, my Cayenne is an automatic. Gotta say that I am forced to be a bit more attentive to my surroundings and what the car is doing when I am in my M3. A manual REQUIRES you to be a more attentive driver, hence, is safer, IMO.

Of course, if you can't properly drive a manual, then obviously the automatic is safer, but I've been driving manuals for 30 years, so I think I can do it pretty well.

LOL @ the thread... but to answer the question, transmission choice in this car has nothing to do with the safety characteristics. Safety is dependent on the DRIVER.
