Broke my Macht Snell 12 MM spacer
I was running there longer lug nuts. The wheels were properly torqued. I've put about 7k miles on the street, and roughly 1k miles on them on the track.
Heard a horrible sound at the track, so I pulled off, couldn't get it to reproduce. Was going to pack up and go home. Drove it out on the street to my trailer, then the car came to scratching halt. All 5 lugs broke as well as the spacer, ruined the inside of my wheel. Luckily the car wasn't damaged the rest is a formality. Has anyone else broken a macht snell spacer? Any sort of warranty on these? I know I should have been running studs, that is my fault, but it was a street car that I took the track every once in a while, but I learned from my mistake. Just wondering if its worth my time to contact them! Thanks fellas. ![]() ![]() |

Looks like the bolts broke and then the movement if the wheel messed up the spacer. It's still their bolt that failed.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Just hard to believe that all 5 bolts broke. If there was a defective set of bolts made, it's hard to believe we haven't heard about others having issues.

None of the lugs were backed out after they broke off.
Found 4 out of 5 lugs on the side of the road. ![]() |

Pretty much what I'm thinking. The odds of them all breaking at the same time is extremely rare if the wheels were indeed torqued down at the time of the incident.

what's up with the wad of cash!? haha!
I agree that it looks like the spacer failed because the nuts/studs failed. With that said, I'd never put MS parts on critical, load-bearing areas of my car.

MS only makes the spacer which doesn't carry a load. The bolts are surely supplied from a 3rd party.

So the lip on that hubcentric spacer isn't where the vehicles's load is placed?

I can't answer that with certainty. Yes, the wheel rests there but the load is carried by the wheel bolts to my knowledge. The damage on the spacer more than likely only occurred after the wheel bolts broke.

A hubcentric spacer is by all means a load bearing piece. Whether or not a 3rd party manufactures the bolts or not, MS still sells them and the consumer in this example, trusts thier judement to pick quality parts that will not fail.

I think that issue was limited to their 1st gen intake setups.

Let me put it to you this way, if you put a 15mm spacer on your car without that lip (which extends the hub), your wheel will shear all 5 bolts off and fall off of the car very quickly. It's a load bearing piece. PERIOD.

the pattern on the ring of the spacer looks a bit unusual.. like the wheel was rocking in and out to create that.. and finally it just gave way and bent the top
I'm thinking the wheel wasn't 100% flush on the spacer.. the bolts would still torque down "properly" (as you said) but there would be a small gap and the load of driving just worked the gap wider and wider until 4 of the bolts snapped and the wheel bent the lip of the spacer working itself off.. |
