Question about upgrading from VF625 to VF650

I spoke with BPM via email and was told the tune was optional and I only needed a pulley. It definitely wasn't Mike, but does this sound accurate? Was told I only need the pulley upgrade.

From my experience, it sounds correct. The tune change is really only needed if you're running new injectors or the first tune didn't include fuel and ignition targets for the higher boost levels (and BPM does this, which is one of the reasons why I send most people to them that buy used kits).

I was under the impression that to upgrade you needed a pulley, injectors and water meth... I mean that's what I am considering a 650 upgrade anyways

VF650 kits don't use meth and they use the same injectors as the 620. He already said he was getting the pulley.

What?

ESS charges $2000 more to upgrade to a different size pulley? Nothing else different from a new 625 to 650 SC?

The VT2-650 uses a 7 rib belt drive assembly that the 625 does not. This requires several pulleys to be upgraded. The 650 kit also uses different injectors and software than the 625.

So BPM also told me the tune isn't necessary so its a very good cost effective upgrade to the 650. Just a pulley! Seems odd though that a tune wouldn't be needed to extract extra power from the higher psi.

I checked through my staffs email history, and from what I saw it was suggested that you upgrade to the 650 software, but not absolutely necessary for the car to run properly. Keep in mind that the main reason for this is that the VF kits use the same injectors for all of the kits, whereas other SC kits change the injectors with stages.

Yes but I didn't get the same clarity you just provided, which was why I posted here (I knew you would see and provide more info). Thanks Mike!

while it's true VF uses the same injectors, decent sized 440cc ones, it's not recommended to just use the VF620 software. Why? The timing limit at upper rpm is too high for that boost level. The 650 software most likely limits timing to something safer

The inference I would suppose is running lean and detonation. But this is BPM VF620 software.

Correct. In regards, to BPM, I have no experience with their tune and can't comment.

Anyone know what the correct pulley size I need is? I asked VF on Wednesday for purchasing but haven't heard back yet.

OK, will do. You also have the belt? VF says I need this as well, since the 620 uses as different belt as per VF.

Bullshit. Same belt. I didn't change mine when I made the swap. It's a 6-rip pulley, the diameter change is negligible, hell, just to give you an an idea, I'm two sizes smaller than the 620 pulley now and I'm still using the 620 belt. I replied to your PM

7 rib? I thought the 650 kit was 6?

Not to be an instigator, but the 650 kits come with the same injectors as the 625s now, correct? I have asked several times why I did not get the blue (bigger) injectors with my 650 kit and instead got the grey/white ones that come with the 625 kit and was told they run the same injectors now. What's the deal?

The ESS 650 kit comes with a 7rib. Including pullies for the crank, alternator, and waterpump (the crank pulley on the 7rib side is also larger in diameter than the stock version). The alternator pulley requires a special tool to remove if you don't want to remove the whole alternator from the car.

Put in the 3.48 (88mm) pulley last week and put the car away immediately. Update coming this weekend.

It's very noticeable past 6k, that extra 1-1.5lbs makes a big difference
