In California, all the pumps have these rubber "boots" if you will that cover the nozzle. Most of the time (for me) when you select the lever to hold the handle in the fill position it can constantly click off (like it would if tank was full). This can be extremely annoying Maybe the OP is referring to this?

i usually ease it in slow and then make sure i dont dribble any on the way out.

I gotta lube it up first by sliding my credit card. Then I take my pants off and stick it all up in there and squeeze and wait. I get a lot of funny looks though, eh well.

Still, practice makes perfect and the more you do it the better you get. Try to pump gas at night when there's less people and if you do something embarrassing, no one will know.

I hold it firmly, then gently slide it in.... Depending on the moode, i'll slam it or continue with the gentle slide.

Well the issue these days is that it's very hard to find race gas at the pump. I did a local search here recently of places that were SUPPOSED to have it at the pump. 90% had either stopped selling or had gone out of business. This is why I decided to get direct. It's more expensive than similar 76 products but if you can't find it or have to drive extensively to get it, it becomes futile.

They use to sell Citgo 100 every where in NY yrs ago..and now I know of only 3 stations left around who sell Sunoco 100 ...the thing is you never know what you are getting..if the fuel has been underground too long you end up spending on lesser octane or contaminated gas...direct is def the way to go.

Just make sure you pump it into the correct opening. Failure to do so could void your warranty
