I'm about to go crazy trying to settle on what I should get

I value a good interior and the only thing holding me back on the E92 M3 is the dated interior that does not have the features of the other cars listed.

I honestly stuck between Practicality/Roominess, Sportiness, and Full on luxury

BMW is driving me crazy with all the choices! can you tell by the spread sheet I made over the last 5 hours?


everything is pretty much fully loaded unless noted by base.
(using May's residuals, MFs, and percentages for each model)


I guess it comes down to ... Do I want to forgo the interior for the awesome sound and performance of the S65

That is an awsome spreadsheet. I did something similar with using the max MSD's and it did not make my decision any easier. I am still trying to decide between an E92 M3, Z4is, and a 550i. Three completely different cars but all great in their own respect. Spending $70k+ on a car is not a matter to be taken lightly. Just wait until you get so consumed by it your calculating Virginia sales tax and Richmond Personal Property tax in your spreadsheet! I would go with the M5 base if I could afford it.

yeah I hear you on the stuck between the 3. Its like the they are all calling my name

M3: I'm fast and agile!
5 Series: I have more practicality and an updated interior!
6 series: I have crazy features and luxury!

I guess what I want doesnt exist
The speed, sound, and agility of the E92 M3 ... with the interior of a 6er or 5er

as far as calculating the taxes...
Luckly I still have an address in South Carolina. I will be plating my car in SC so I can avoid.

I hear you there. Luckily here in Hampton Roads we dont have the emission requirements. I hated the front plate on my 328. It was installed on the car when I bought it. I dont miss the mosquitos in Charleston. You could almost afford to own a house there with what the cities carge in property taxes around here. After test driving the Z4 i was convinced I needed one. Then I test drove a loaded M3...the power and that DCT were intoxicating. My wife wanted to test drive a 550 while we were there and I couldnt believe the power and creature comforts of that beast. SO many decisions. I know it is a not a bad problem to have but still a problem.

You would have to wait a few months for the hype to die down inorder to score ed invoice +500$
but lets assume your willing to wait a few months

Even if the lease numbers are off by a point of two it would only raise the monthly by 30$-40$

I'm a spreadsheet nerd myself (e.g., I just replicated yours to check #s), but the problem with spreadsheets and cars is that you try to rationalize a decision that is ultimately an emotional one.
Not a day goes by that I don't regret passing along my M3 because I didn't want to spend $ with a set of winter tires and rims (result of a spreadsheet and family situation).
In the end, go with what you can afford and then with your heart/gut - in that order.
My gut tells me my next car will be an E9X M3, end of story, that V8 is in fact too intoxicating.
Which one is your drug? That's the question.

I'm a fan of the M3 due to the V8 and the exhaust note. The 550 would be sweet with some 312 Ferric Wheels, and would definitely have more status quo on the road.

The M3 woud be more fun to make any modifications to. Do you consider many mods in your future? For myself, I didn't see a future of modding until after a year with my 335i. My plans are to upgrade the suspension to M-bits. I guess part of me likes to be the underdog, and learn how to work on my own car. It's so rewarding.

Also, us folk on the forums can offer so much help with the 3-series. There are crickets over in the 5+ forums.


Since you're dropping between 50-70k on a car, don't you want it to knock your socks off when you hit the gas and hug those turns like no other?

I would get the M3. Stay away from the M5 until the second or third model year. Let BWM work out all the bugs.

What is the lease term? It looks like three years?

ED = European Delivery. That is the car is pick-up from BMW's Welt Center but shipped to the USA after. The car is not from the dealers allocation. There is a lot of information on this topic. Either search feature here or Google.
