Adjusting Rear KW sleeve over kit

Just how do you adjust the rear spring perch without the base from spinning? I've tried to use a few different spring compressors to unload the suspension but had no luck... I ended up having to take the control arm bolts back out.

I have no experience with the KW rear height adjuster on the e9x M3. However, I bet if you were to add thrust sheets at the top and bottom of the spring you'd be able to adjust rear ride height without having to remove the rear spring.

Wait, so I can't just jack the corner up and adjust it? If so, that sucks

With my rear Moton adjuster if I unload the main spring (compress helper spring) then I'm able to adjust rear ride height. The Moton adjuster is at the top of the spring and goes into the chassis. It sounds like the KW adjuster is at the bottom of the main spring (sitting on the control arm) so there really isn't anything to prevent the threaded side of the adjuster from spinning. Based on the OP's problem even if you unload the main spring the entire adjuster still spins.

Are you using KW's?

Yeah i'm running KW's. I put the car up tomorrow and see what kind of adjustment I can make with no compressor.

If you have someone that can help you, they should be able to pull up on the spring enough to offload the adjuster without the use of a spring compressor. If your KW setup uses a helper or tender spring then it's really easy to offload the adjuster. Good luck!

If you can't easily adjust the ride height I'd recommend adding thrust sheets...

I just got my KW kit in the mail.

Looking at the rear adjusters, there doesn't appear to be a locking mechanism. My concern is that the collar position may shift over time. From the posts in this thread, it sounds like the adjuster is constantly preloaded by the springs, even at full rebound.

I'm going to scribe the collar position when I install mine and check for any shifts periodically. Has anyone had any issues with the rear adjusters shifting over time?

As Richard said, any tool to hold the base in place, will do the trick. It can become a bit annoying, but it's not difficult at all.

Does anybody have some actual step by step instructions for lowering the KW sleeve over kit? The 3 page pamplet that came with the kit does not really show you how to do anything.

It just states to put the car on level ground and adjust accordingly.

Not very helpful for the first timer.

You need a coilover wrench to properly adjust the suspension height.



Like the post mentioned above earlier, using an oil filter wrench on the base, you should be able to turn the rear height adjustment collars with a coilover wrench.
