Thumbs up BE Bearings | Group Buy for S65/S85 rod bearings

-- Better Bearings for your BMW

Announcing BE Bearings Group Buy

Background:
  • BMW M5 (2005-2010), BMW M3 (2008-2013) can suffer early bearing failure due to inadequate rod bearing clearance.
  • Insufficient clearance means insufficient oil flow, excessive bearing surface heat, and premature wear.
  • These symptoms can lead to early bearing failure and a very expensive engine rebuild.
  • Problem can be addressed during engine rebuild, but it's expensive.
  • Some people switched to thinner oils -- as a stopgap measure.
  • Other stopgap measures include anti-friction teflon coated factory bearings, WPC anti-friction treated factory bearings, and custom bearings with same clearance as stock.
  • WPC treated bearings slightly increase clearance, but are a stopgap.
  • Newer factory bearings (2010.5 and later) are made from tin-aluminum, not lead-copper. Tin-aluminum bearings are 4-times harder on the surface than lead-copper bearings. This extra hardness shows signs of doing more damage to motors as there seems to be more bearing failures with 2010.5 and later vehicles. Tin-aluminum bearings also don't show the same signs of premature wear in Blackstone oil analysis due to lack of lead and copper.
  • We are the guys who came up with the WPC treated bearings and we realized a better solution was needed.
The Better Solution:
  • Designed to address and fix the rod bearing clearance issue.
  • Designed for use with factory 10W60 weight oils.
  • Increases oil flow.
  • Improves lubrication for "Start-Stop" vehicles over factory bearings.
  • Designed in consultation with leading industry experts from NASCAR, Indy Car, and former BMW M-Division engine designer.
  • Designed and manufactured by Clevite, factory BMW bearing supplier.
  • Traditional lead-copper bearing design; less wear on crankshaft journals, traceable with Blackstone oil analysis.
  • Each bearing is measured and size-binned. Allows for custom bearing selection when necessary.

Group Buy Details
  • Price: S65: $530.10 (10% discount)
  • Price: S85: $660.60 (10% discount)

I bought them and the discount code refunded 10% plus the $13ish dollars for shipping.

Your shipping fee should have been refunded along with the discount amount at the time of purchase. If not, just let us know.

I am assuming that these bearings have been field tested in street and race applications in various conditions? Any tear down photos of these bearings after use?

Orders usually ship within one business day. Check with your dealer or send Ernie @ BE Bearings to follow up.

For now, we recommend OEM bolts. RG will test all the rod bolts and post a report at the BE Bearings wiki page with results. For now, he's already completed the tests on OEM and ARP-2000 bolts. Those results are on the wiki page.

In addition to testing by BE, some people on the forum are running them now (search engine subsection). Should have some good data in the coming months.

Here's a couple of photos that show the BE Bearings commitment to quality control.

BE Bearings measure every bearing thickness, bins them into thickness sizes, then create sets of matching parts. For dedicated racing applications that need the strictest quality control, this approach will allow BE Bearings to create a custom set of bearings on a per rod journal basis. You need to dial in your clearances to half a 10000th of an inch? No problem, BE Bearings can help you do this.

Sales have been brisk. Already sold 25 sets since sales started about two weeks ago. If you're planning for a spring time bearing upgrade when you pull the car out of the garage, now would be a good time to get in on the group by for the 10% discount and free shipping (within US, $20 credit international).

Buy them now from the group buy and ask for delayed credit card processing until the end of January when you check out your order. The bearing sales have been so brisk that there there is a small possibility the first batch of BE Bearings -- 125 sets -- will be sold out by then. They are selling quite well, so I recommend anybody on the fence to act sooner rather than later.

A second batch is already in the works.

During a bearing purchase, we have added the ability to purchase rod bolts to go along with the bearings. For now, they don't appear on the same screen and must be put in the shopping cart separately. The same BEB10 discount code applies to the entire order, including rod bolts.

We are selling custom made for BE rod bolts by ARP, and BMW factory bolts. Our ARP rod bolts are custom made to our specificaitons and tested with our torque settings to ensure the least amount of rod big-end bore distortion. Both rod bolts are available at our store with a bearing purchase and will be discounted with the BEB10 discount code through the end of the year.
