I'm willing to bet MSRP base is under $58k. Sure, with delivery, options and so forth you will be in the upper $60s easily; $70k+ only for fully optioned cab, IMO.

It would be marketing suicide for BMW and/or the Dealers to overprice the car. Sure they would sell well for the first 6 months to fanboys and badge lovers too rich to know what else to do with their money. Within a year, M3s would be sitting on dealer lots like the M5s and M6s. Overpricing the car would also create a huge depreciation hit down the road, again similar to what is now happening to the above mentioned cars. BMW is generally known for their keen marketing skills. They have little room for mistakes on this car. When the the E46 came out it was the obvious choice in its price range. With the e92, the competition has stepped it up big time. Now there are simply too many great cars in this price range for BMW to try and be greedy.

impossible...with options it can easily come to 80K, with a few more bucks someone can just get a M5.

Also imagine if the coupe started at 70K, than that means the vert will probably be close to 80K. Again add some options on the vert and you are looking at a 90K M3 vert. No one would be insane enought to send 90K for a M3

I still believe the msrp will be around $55k. It's good if they keep the price low since there're many cheaper Japanese competitors such as Lexus and Infinity. BWM'd better think wisely. If the M3 price's over $60k, I'll look for the alternatives.

No way. 911 base MSRP is $72k.

We pay the sh.t out of expensive health care and insurance craps. Also, the number of cars sold in the States may be more than the whole Europe combined. Therefore, the cars' prices would better be cheap here.

There is another side to this discussion. In some markets where the price has been announced, it sems to fall in just below the Audi RS4 which is the US rolls out at $66k.

Just completed my order for an 08 M3 through Military sales. They gave me an estimate of $57K US total with the options I want and including gas guzzler tax and shipment to the states. I didnt go crazy with options just wheels, sirius, and nav. They are estimating a base price of around 55K-57K and offering a base price of 49K to deployed military members.

I think most of you can rest easy that the base price will be in the mid 50's. Car and Driver as well as a few other reputable magazines are starting to make the same estimates.

Congrats!! I think you are the first US guy (at least on the board) who has placed their order. What else can you tell us, anything about prices on options, that is a big unknown. You're a lucky dog. Where will you take delivery?

Well, options lists for the US are obviously not available yet so I didnt put much effort into choosing options at this point. Military sales said when the official options list and pricing is out then I can "refine" my order. I chose to have my car delivered to San Diego BMW. Basically, at this point, I have placed a 3K deposite for an early allocation but the VIN# and exact lay out of the car has not been decided. They told me that I am up for an estimated delivery date of April 30th. They wouldnt let me order the M-DCT since they dont know build dates for the M-DCT versions, so right now I am in line for a 6spd. I am still very much on the fence about my tranny choice. If I went with the M-DCT I was told I would most likely have to wait for a June/July delivery. But I think that was just guessing.....

They did tell me that BMW is going to limit early production numbers just like they did with the M5. From what they told me it sounds like only those that are number 1 or 2 on their dealers lists will get an 08 model. Even Military Sales will have limited allocations which is unusual since Military sales is basically ordering direct from the factory.

I think the concern for those of you that really want an 08 shouldnt be price but rather allocation numbers.

I'm assuming ~$58k + $8-10k in options. Anything under $70k I'm comfortable, considering my '01 was almost $54k. Even $70k would only be a 4%/yr. average increase since 2001.

Dull? $12k will be close to "fully optioned". I hardly think an M3 with $8k in opitons will be dull! For $8k I expect to be able to get 19s, M-DCT, HD radio and MDrive. Adjustable dampers I'm on the fence about.

JEllis thanks for correcting your post. You put down a deposit for a purchase/delivery of an M3 on an estimated date. I have done the same. There are no firm dates, no price lists, nothing available through MSP. If there was, you could simply post it. My order form had "TBD" (To Be Determined) in all the options and pricing blanks just like yours.

Anybody know if leather is going to come standard, or be an option like in the other 3-series? It really chapped my ass that my 335 had a base MSRP of $40 grand and didn't even come with leather standard. For $55K+, the M had damn well better have leather.

Dont know if it will come Std or not. but I hope they have other interior options as not everyone likes or wants leather (myself for one).
