M-Drive Question

Had this topic come up on a for sale thread so wanted to move to the appropriate section - see below?

Good point although I've always wondered.....
Servtronic Steering - when I set my EDC to the firm setting my steering gets more aggressive - is this the same as when the M button is depressed?
Sport + throttle - When I push the "power" button next to the EDC controls I get a more responsive throttle - is this the same as when the M button is depressed?
M dynamic mode - is this traction control related? Or is it just the combination of firmest EDC setting, "Power" on, and traction control off/less intrusive?

I guess my question is: Is M-Drive just a shortcut to achieve all the button presses I mentioned above? Or is there something additional?

Thanks

Did you

I'll be a good guy and answer anyway...

With M-Drive:

Servotronic (Normal-Sport): Sport mode reduces the amount of power steering assist. On M-Drive equipped cars it is not related to EDC (not sure if it is on non-M-Drive cars). When you increase stiffness of the shocks, you do get better steering response, but the assist remains un-changed.

Sport (Normal - Sport - Sport Plus) Sport plus is an additional setting you do not get with non M-Drive cars. Even sharper throttle response. Pretty useless IMO.

DSC (On - MDM -Off) MDM is a sportier setting of DSC that allows some wheel slip before intervening.

So it does have additional settings, with the most significant being the MDM DSC mode. However, the coolest feature of M-Drive is, as you mention, the ability to program two "moods" for the car. One leisurely set-up for DD and a more aggressive setting for a spirited drive (or at the track). If your car has DCT, you can also program the DCT setting in the M-button.

What CanAuto said.

99% of this forum will tell you you must get MDrive (which necessarily means iDrive for us Canadians)

My personal feeling is that, if something were *essential* for an M3, it would be on the car already.
