2011 550i xdrive to 2012 M3

Well its official. Today I signed the papers to trade in my 2011 550i for a new 2012 Jerez Black M3 w/ red fox interior, DCT, ZCP, ZPP, carbon leather interior, CF roof and a few other options I wont bore you with mentioning. When I bought my 550 I was in a location that I needed the xdrive and ended up trading in my 335xi. Having a M3 as my only car just wasnt reasonable with the weather and terrible roads. After relocating to Charleston, SC for a new job (and missing the fun I had in my 335 which I had full bolt on and tuned), I can now ditch the awd and pick up what has been my dream car since I was a kid!

I will be picking up the new whip Wednesday and I have to say, it cant get here soon enough lol. I'll be sure to post photos once I have the car before it becomes covered in pollen lol.

i'm making the same move, though i'm pawning off the 550i on my bride. did you do anything to the 550 ie dinan tune or suspension? i did both and that is a mean car. i'm sure on the highway it can torch the M3. but that's not the same thing as being a faster car now is it

I'm curious as well. Love my M3, but my eye is drawn to the F10 550i like few other cars. I've never driven one.

Garage List
We have both a E92 M3 and a F10 550xi M-sport. They are both great cars but very different. The 550 is larger, more comfortable and very fast car. It handles well but is not close to the M3 - being something like 800 lbs heavier is a big part of it. This is even if you have it in Sport Plus mode. The tech is better than the E92 and the interior is much nicer. It does accelerate like a locomotive.

The M3 is less refined and more nimble. Winding it out to high rpms is unmatched by the 550. It can also comfortable but not to the same degree as the 550.

We're lucky to have both. If we only could have one, it would depend on the circumstances (weather, number of people who ride in the car) just like the OP stated.

Congrats to the OP!

+1, will be a 550 + m3 guy when i pick up e92 at PCD in May. the 550 is so refined on the inside, the interior is truly wonderful. the Engine is a monster, and a simple dinan tune turns out 500 HP + 580 torque. it's faster than most cars on the road. i came out of an e60 535i sport and do have to say that the 550 is more lumbering. think bomber rather than fighter bomber (f10 --> e60) and the M3 a full on fighter jet. can't wait!
