My understanding is his "trained observer" status only goes so far. For example 135 in a 25 versus 5 over in a 25 are two different things. I don't know numbers on this just that the concept holds true here in WA.

Most local cops are cool. Most State troopers are assholes.

In my experience, of course.

That's funny...because I've had the opposite experience. When I was younger, I tailgated a trooper going up a mountain and he ended up pulling me over for doing 79 in a 55 zone. He let me off with a warning. NYPD with their BS quotas wrote me up for a no front plate ticket 100 feet from the entrance to the holland tunnel going to NJ. Go figure.

OP- you haven't answered the questions others are asking so we have nothing but speculation to go on. Please elaborate on exactly what happened when the cop pulled you over. Something is missing from your story. You get pulled over for what you think is 30 in 25 zone and he tells you 40. You don't ask him what he's basing this on???? Did he use radar? Help us out.........

kensington village, great neck, NY. my lawyer told me he tells all his clients to avoid driving through kensington... I've heard a story one of their cops "pulled over" a woman whom was already pulled over in parked gear with the car on. the woman was tending to her children in the back seat. the cop gave her a ticket for operating a vehicle with out hands on the steering wheel. when she went to court the prosecutor offered her a deal to change the ticket to a $120 parking ticket, she signed the deal. when the judge called her case he turned to the cop and the prosecutor and said there is no such violation as "operating a vehicle with out hands on the steering wheel" the prosector said she already agreed to pay $120 for the plea bargain and the judge could interfere...

the sad part is that cops like filthy animal that gave me a speeding ticket for driving an M3 get paid the most and work in the safest area in the country...

Bummer. The M3 always looks like it's speeding, even when parked.

If you were in a high RPMrange.. the higher engine speed could make it appear you were going faster than you actually were.

As soon as I see a cop.. I drop into a higher gear..cops.. whatya gonna do

Wow I've been pulled over more times then none. With my plates they already have a heads up that I work for a dept. Everytime I've pulled my license out my badge sits right next to it. They run it I think to check the license to make sure no warrants or car isn't stolen then advise me to slow down! Oh and usually Its in my C5 convertable I'm getting pulled over in since its my DD, I drive it like I stole it.lol... I'm always very polite and thankful. The thing about it CHP doesn't really give a break to anyone.

Pay a lawyer and be done with it. Not worth the points and very little to be gained. Where I live in NY most offenses are reduced to non-moving violations (my wife thinks she is Mario Andretti and i refuse to put a front plate on my M5 bumper so we get stopped quite a bit). The biggest issue I have had is at the Canadian border returning to the States - they really don't like the lack of a front plate...

Pulled over by a mounted officer in a neighbor hood Saturday the day after I got my car. He said some nasty things and wouldn't tell me why he pulled me over after I politely asked him numerous times. Wrote me up for not have the new insurance (not yet delivered to my house.). He finally told me he stopped me for a semi rolling stop. Confused I asked him didn't I stop completely? He replies "yes you did, your front tires were touching the white line" in the nastiest tone of voice. I kept calm and relaxed and took my ticket and left but when I got to work, called the police department and voiced my concern. Found out he was on warning for being rude and aggressive towards people and he would be taken care of. Instead of people arguing when getting a ticket (which only makes things worse) just keep cool and after call the police department. There ARE great cops and the bad ones will be straightened up if you handle it properly.
