If they are going to produce the M3 Coupe into mid 2013 and convertible a little longer, there is no way a 2014 model M3 is coming out in late 2013

When is the last time BMW had a new M model of any kind in the same calendar year as a late model (I am talking 7 year cycle late model)? They always wait a year and sometimes two (there was no 2007 M3, so 2 year gap, also no 2011 M5 or 2012 M5, 3 year gap model wise!)

I am guessing maybe a 2014 model sedan in early 2014 and a 2015 model coupe in late 2014...

All the "normal" BMW model year changes schedules and introductions have been changed.

There was supposed to be a MY2012 E90, but it is not. There was not supposed to be a MY2013 E92, but it will be. There was supposed to be a MY2012 M5, but it will not. There are supposed to be model year changes in September, but now they will be in July.

So anything is possible now.

Saw this car at the distribution center tour event in NJ. After seeing how hard it is to do a color match after a repair on these frozen colors, I'm staying away. It seems like a nightmare to upkeep.

I actually find it easier...all you need to do is wash the car. The matte paint doesn't get swirl marks there's no need to worry about polishing.

The main concern is bird shit, but I doubt you would leave bird shit for long on your Ms anyway. Not sure about snow, but heavy rain is not an issue, in fact when it dries the car looks clean again. I just regularly wash mine, about once every 1-2 days (quite typical here). There are wax products like the Swissvax opaque line of products. I haven't tried it out yet though...

Anyway, I find the best part of matte paint is that you can really see the lines of the car a lot better because it reflects less light.

Although I haven't had to respray any part of my car, I can't imagine it would be any more difficult than normal paint...the colour underneath is the same as any other car, it's just the clear coat that is matte!

Only 60K? That means you could buy up to 7 of those to the price of 1 M3 in my country (Norway). That is ridiculous!!

According to the paint specialist at the VDC (fuzzy memory of what he said), but basically it comes down to the color tone when mixing the paint together, its hard to get the exact precise match between one frozen silver to another frozen silver. They showed us color swatches of space grey for example from over the years and not one was an exact match and when you put it on a coat like theres (since its not exactly matte, it still has a bit of sheen to it where matte shouldn't reflect that much light) it gets really difficult to get exactly right. The repaired portion was definitely frozen silver but it was really easy to tell where it was resprayed. Quite an eye opening experience. Hopefully they figure out an easy way to repair, but for now, looks like a pretty lengthy process to get it right.

Actually a funny story is when they talked about us looking at the 6 Series grand sport coupe, they specifially said to please don't try to poke and touch the paint finish too much as its difficult to get rid of the oil residue from the finger prints and it was the photo car used in the promotions, of course the first thing I notice coming back from the tour to take a look were fingerprints running up the hood.

Hmm, it seems that my lease on a 2011 M3 will not take me through to a new car. Will need something in between. Maybe a 128 beater...

I was hesitant too, but I thought what the heck, just give it a shot. 3 months later I've got no regrets at all! It just depends now on your personal preference, whether you want to stand out or blend in

Yeah the oil residue can be an issue, I believe the Swissvax opaque paint cleaner will get rid of all of that!

I know the paint will have a sheen to it when you apply it, but as far as I'm aware it's entirely the clearcoat that makes it matte...as for the colour matching, well...I've personally had very limited experience with panel beaters but I presume that will just come down to their experience and expertise to get the colour matching your car properly.

Disagree. The sedan and coupe are now separate models. The new M3 has nothing to do with the new "4". We will see both the F32 and F80 next year just as we saw both the F13 and F10 M5 last year.

I do agree that US availability for the F80 likely won't be until early 2014.

I don't think the "M4" will hit US until 2015 (7 years from E92 M3).
