Garage List
2008 M3 Coupe  [5.00]
I get a free final service after warranty expires, not sure if everyone do.

Go complain that you hear clunking sound from rear wheels on cornering (the symptoms for diff fluid replacement). They prob won't bother checking since its very common issue and they'll just change your diff fluid with the new improved one!

Just had the 30k mile check on mine, here's what I remember them doing.

1. Differential oil change (just like mentioned above)
2. Spark plugs replaced
3. Oil change.

The car had just been in for a 28k mile service too. My understanding is if you're within 1k miles of your next service, you can go ahead and get it done.

I could be wrong, but because the first service is at 1200 miles, doesn't that delay the others, so the services would be at 16,200 and 31,200 miles-ish?

kind sucks cuz the closest Bmw dealer near me, i have had problems with in the past. one time i took my 528 their and wanted to get the traction contol looked at and they tell me 1600 to fix it, cuz it needed a new motor or somethng. i had already purchases the contol module for it. so i decided to just put that new part in and BAM! the traction control was fixed..only cost me like 200. so i think its safe to say i shouldnt go there, and of course the next closest one is 1.5 hours away. I just wanna know what leverage i have in having fluids chaged etc... what can i push to get done at 29k miles.

I'm at about 30K and am about to get an oil change next week, I'll try and get the diff oil changed too.

You can get little things changed like windshield wipers and the microfilter.

If you're brakes are due soon, you might try burning them up in 3weeks lol.

My dealer refused to change the diff or trans fluid. Service tech drove the car with me in it and said both were performing fine (they are). Free service means very little because there is very little specified servicing.

With most dealers, you will be on your own. BMW has clamped down on unnecessary work. They can get away with wiper blades, which is why you will see a note along the lines of "wipers streaking, blades replaced" at every oil change even though you never complained about this.

I bought brake fluid, power steering fluid, diff fluid, and trans fluid and will be doing my own "pre-lifetime" change. According to BMW, diff and trans are "lifetime" fluids.
