Unlike manual or SMG (also called AMT, Automated Manual Transmission), the Dual Clutch Transmission never has to let up on power delivery during shifts, and the shifts are at least as fast as SMG. So, it should have an advantage over those two in acceleration. The other advantage over SMG is that it is smoother under all conditions. VW/Audi calls their DCT "DSG". Here are some relevant articles on the future of transmissions for those interested: http://www.zeroshift.com/pdf/EAC906%2013.pdf http://newsletter.csmauto.com/4thQtr2005/?a=2 This is most likely the unit going in the M3 March or April next year: ![]() KEY BENEFITS - Optimized efficiency - Shifting without interruption of traction - Excellent comfort - Very quick and sportive shiftings possible SPECIFICATIONS Max. DCT
Either. Most have Manual and Auto modes. In manual, you shift via paddles or stick, but just don't need to use a clutch pedal. In Auto, it's, well, automatic.
