NA V8 vs I6 twin/tri turbos ??
We can almost sure there will be turbochargers in the next generation M3. But between this two engine, which one do you guys prefer? Personally I love the current NA V8, so I am getting a last year model e92 this year and I wont regret it ! I will place my order in this summer, will become one of the proud ///M owners just like you guys soon

These threads are so annoying.
Now you're asking if we prefer the NA V8 or an engine that doesn't even exist yet ![]() The only thing we can say for sure is that the new engine won't sound as good as the S65. Other than that, it'll just be more powerful and more efficient. |

I much prefer the turbo charged one
It's got 3 turbos And as we all know 3>0! Plus it goes whoosh when you accelerate

As long as you throw in some rude pop off valve sounds and flames from the pipes!

It seems most manufacturers are dropping NA V8 models in favour of turbo'd engines. Just the way it goes I guess. Some stupid thing called fuel economy, I dunno

Turbos are a two edged sword...
Good Side * More fuel efficient * Easy to get BIG power Bad Side * More heat * Too hard to not modify due to low cost/power ratio of modifications. Once modified you either have to lie to keep your warrenty (not my bag) or have potentially high $$ warrenty claims fairly denied. If BMW can keep the heat under control (a hard 1 hour on the track without temp problems) and maybe a Dinan tune with matched warrenty, the new M3 could be a winner, especially if it wieghs less than the current, like the F30 vs. E90 328/335.

Based on my experience with the engine that is not available I really like it. I have had several imaginary track days with it and it is very responsive.

Gblansten.
That was hilarious. Perfect answer. But it begs the question. Did you use stock or racing pads at the track?

![]() On a serous note, I'm pretty confident that the new M3 will be amazing - it always is. And I'll be in line getting one...

Back to the subject. I think the engine discussion about the engine is a moot point. It WILL be better than the S65. The real question is weight. I think the evolution of the M3 from a homo (abbreviated because I can't spell the entire word) special to a dual purpose family car is one that I can live with. But if the weight keeps climbing then the M3 will suffer the same fate as the M5 in becoming a luxo-barge. IMO, 3700lbs is right on the brink of what you can call nimble with 2 wheel drive. I think it shows its weight with the brake fade from light track use among other things. |
