Micheline Pilot Sport 3 vs Super Sport

Choosing between these two sets of tires. Which one should I get?

The Pilot Sport 3 should be better in the wet.
The Super Sport should better in every other way?

Anyone who has experienced both tires, or anyone who has knowledge in the field. Please share.

Definitely not the same tyre. PSS is the replacement for the PS2. PS3 came out approx start of 2010.

You are right, my mistake!!

Since the PSS was the replacement for the PS2, I assumed it was the same as the PS3.

I believe the PS3 was intended as a stopgap update to the PS2 that slightly improved on wet traction.

The PSS is Michelin's next generation of max summer tire and meant as a true successor to the Pilot Sport series.

On a more serious note, IMO you can't go wrong with the PSS. I just love the tire. Much better in every way than the PS2. Better in the wet, better in the dry, quieter, lasts longer and less expensive. It made a good improvement to the car.

The PS3 is more like a revision to the PS2 than a whole new tire. It has better wet traction than the PS2, but otherwise not much different. It might better have been called the PS2 Plus.

PS3 is currently only available in the US for some OEM applications as username11 alluded to.

The PSS is an all new design and improves on the PS2 and PS3 in pretty much all measurable categories.

I have had PS3s on my 135i vert, and PSS on my F10 550i. There is definitely a difference between the 2. The PS3 are by themselves very capable tires. In fact, on normal day to day city driving, I would prefer the PS3 over the PSS for one simple reason. PS3 performs better when the car starts after parked overnight.

Make no mistake, my F10 550i with the PSS turns like it is on rails, but only after the tyres warmed up. But I can just hope in the 135i vert and floor it when I start the car cold in the morning. Difference is very pronounced at temperatures around 8C-15C here in Hong Kong, during the winter. When the tyres warmed up, PSS beats PS3 in handling hands down. No contest!

Having said that, I am putting PSS on my M3 cab, simply because PS3 does not have the sizes that I want for 19".......

I was told by a Michelin Tire engineer that the PS3 is only going to be actively marketed in the EU.

Apparently the wet performance is particularly well-suited for autobahn speed highway driving.

The PSS is about as much tire as any of us will ever need for the street.
If you like Michelins over the others, order the PSS and don't over think it.

I love the 255/285 on my Style 359M (ZCP) 19s.
They are INSANE in the wet.

This is the best and most clear answer. The PSS is the best all-around street tire that Michelin makes! If you are deciding between the Pilot Super Sport and anything else, don't waste your time splitting hairs, just get the PSS! Just go read the reviews, you'll thank us...
