Any possibility for US delivery in Jan-Feb?

SUP FELLAS !

Like the rest of y'all i've been patiently waiting for this e92 //M3 with anticipation on any news at all from either across the atlantic or back home here in the states.

My question is this... what are the chances that us in the states will see delivery on the m3 before the originally estimated march-april of 2008?

None - I've heard that March is when US production begins, which means vehicles won't be stateside until May or June of 08

Personally I think "none" might be a bit aggressive. What I have heard a lot is March deliveries in the US, not March builds. However, we've also heard all about September 07 deliveries in the EU. Will it really take a full 7 months to finish adapting the vehicle for the US and begin production for BMWs LARGEST worldwide market? I think the March date is still a rumor and is conservative. Either way I think BMW will get them here absolutely as soon as possible. It's fairly simple they are in the business of making money and the sooner they get here the sooner they get their money.

Also - the car is already up on bmwusa.com's future vehicles section - would they really keep that car up there for 10 months? doubtfull...

having the car up on the us website was not by choice; they had to put some information there after the car was officially introduced in europe. also, if the dealers are taking orders for it--which they are--it makes sense that they provide some information on what people are ordering (yeah, i know those orders are not "official" until they can be entered into the bmw system, but still...) late february might not be too unrealistic for the east coast, but the firmer date is probably march. us production is supposed to start late december, not march. i am sure we will know more by the end of summer.

finally, i don't think the delay has anything to do with "adapting" the car for the us market. those types of issues are handled concurrently in today's global product development scenarios--considering how important the us market is--not after a product is fully developed for a given market. so, if that's what bmw is doing, they are behind the times. that said, i don't have an explanation for why we are getting the cars later than the europeans. i guess it could simply be related to production ramp up schedules, and naturally, the germans should be getting their own product first when supply is limited...

I've heard from a couple sources that US production starts in December, so I would say there is some chance for Jan-Feb deliveries.

Z4 needs almost 3 months from US production to delivery in Germany, should it be any faster in the opposite direction?

Best regards, south

Whatever the case, I hope there are no problems with the first run. That's my only concern, to get one now (in 2008) or wait for the next model year....

Two months is average from production completion to arrival at dealer, I believe. East coast is a couple weeks less than West.

In California, there might other issues limiting shipment. When I bought my '04 325ci, I had to wait an extra 60 days, and the delay had nothing to do with production. The manual version was not SULEV (due to slightly higher compression ratio than the automatic I think), and each manufacturer can ship only so many non-SULEV cars into the state, so one had wait until that was cleared. But I would assume M3s would get priority over other 3 series non-SULEV cars. Actually, I don't know which cars in BMWs current lineup are SULEV, and which cars aren't.

Anyone know if US dealers are going to get a fleet of demo cars, like they did with the E46 M3?

In 2001, there was an army of Laguna Seca Blue M3s with Grey interiors delivered to dealers as demo cars, and I got to test drive one.

When I was about to order a 335, they said it takes 5 weeks from start of production to actual delivery.

That sounds a little optomistic for the West coast. Roughly, 1 week for production, 1-2 weeks until ship departure, 4 weeks to West coast, 1 week through vechicle prep and delivery to dealer. Minimum 7 weeks as I see it.
