i don't know, am i the only one that still believes that bmw engineered all the small shit to fail after the warranty expires to keep continued service business?

Engine was rock solid but my E38 and others where practically designed to fail.. I"m hoping its not the case as i love my e92

The M3 is BMW's most reliable car. That right there should say a lot.

1,000,000 miles @ 200 miles per tank = 5,000 fill ups

5,000 fill ups at 16 gallons = 80,000 gallons of fuel

80,000 gallons @ 4.05 = 324,000

Your new M3 is going to be pricy lol

The E46 and E9x M3s have been the only BMWs to be recommended as used cars to buy from Consumer Reports. They are build to be driven hard and therefore hold up over time, assuming you properly maintain them of course.

Thanks ... when this car was some 5 years old people would follow me into shopping centres and ask "If you ever sell this car please call me first" and leve me there card or number little did they know I had no intention to ever sell her.

This year I will give the internal a good go over ... not that it needs it, just to celebrate the 25th year anniversary since purchase.

I drive mine a bit more on the conservative side calculating my numbers in KM and Litres I get about 300 to 350 Miles highway from a tank of gas. Driving just about 10% above posted speed limit.

I took the 2 pictures below in November last year just before taking the car out from the dealer delivery area. I knew the number 759 KM (491 Miles) to fill up was too good to be true 1/2 hour into my 2 hour trip home it adjusted itself to reality Still for a car like ours with normal driving getting some 300 to 350 Miles (482 to 563 KM) to a tank of gas is very good.

Last year in my 2011 M3 going on a very long road trip that is what I got. So driving our car half decent will result in good returns and lots of fun.

Cheers AP

Stefan, In addition never ever forget that our cars are build for high speed exposure on the Autobahn and the track ... also BMW as you may know when designing and finalizing an ///M car replaces about 50% of it's components with components to withstand ///M driving requirements as well as modifying up to 80% of the rest of the car before the ///M goes into production. So yes the resale value of an ///M car is much stronger then the rest of them. Indeed good info to know.

Still driving my '97 M3, almost at 200k!

Need the ceiling interior touched up a bit and I've noticed a bit of plastic degradation on the window seals, but other than those cosmetics, no complaints.

It's certainly not true for everything, but I'd say a lot of the more expensive out of warranty maintenance items fail based on miles, not age. It seems like a lot of expensive work needs to be done in the 75k - 100k range, so if you are doing 15k per year, you might be looking at 5 good years, if you are doing 5k per year, then you might get 15 years.

When the car goes out of warranty, I wont take it back to the dealer for repairs. Instead, I'll find a great independent BMW mechanic (who formerly worked for a dealer) and that will cut repair expenses to a point which will allow me to think about keeping this car far into the future.
After about 30 years, though, dependable mechanics will be hard to find and that's when you'll have to fix it yourself.

What? Those are some incredible numbers. 300-350 MPG is really good, almost 335i/328i range...

Well, after reading some posts on here over the last couple of days it is safe to say that the average life span of an M3 is about 3 months if the owner is under the age of 21 or if the owner turns off DSC.
