If you still want to be a sleeper and maintain your image for your business you might just want to hold out for the new M5 man. Any supercharged M3 regardless of how it looks is gonna be tough to just cruise around in because of the temptation to put your foot in it. And not to mention the new M5 is supposed to get great gas mileage for what it is. Just my two cents.... (if you can't wait though get the M3 and drive the balls off!!!)

Thanks you did read my post and understand where I am coming from! I did contemplate the new M5 so in advance of that, I drive the new 550i. Obviously the M will be a much better car for the driver experience but I just couldn't get over how big it is. I like a smaller, more nimble car and so that's likely a deal breaker. I have an SUV for surfing and hauling around the dog

I'm also curious what other typical costs I can expect with either a VT2 or VT3. Sounds like perhaps a transmission upgrade [how much?]...but would a brake upgrade be necessary? I warped my stock rotors on the 335i after only 5 laps at Big Willow...so a brake upgrade is obviously mandatory if I go the 335is/big turbo route but am not familiar with how the stock M3 brakes would stand up to some mild track time.

I will get a chance to see some supercharged e9X M3's today/tomorrow at the airstrip event so I will also ask those guys a lot of questions as well but I know there are a lot more of you on here so thanks again for the feedback.
Definitely give us your feedback when you can after the airstrip event.

I am guessing you will purchasing this car, rather than lease it like your current 335. I would not be putting these extensive mods on a leaser.

if you are going to use it as a commuter car like i do, 335 will use less gas but would be more jumpy in traffic as you get on and off boost. M3 will eat up more gas but will be more smooth. especially with the drive aggression control and the EDC I really like this feature for the commutes especially since i can bring back full aggression, firmest suspension, and turn down the DTC with one push of the magical "M" button. I liked my moded 335 for the wall of torque that hits you when every you get on the gas but it was an annoyance when i was in traffic but love the jekyll and hyde nature of my M3.

Personally, I would not spend the extra money for the VT3 kit over the VT2. And since you live in California, 91 octane is the highest you can go, which puts you at the VT2-600 kit ($12,500). I would get that kit and then a big brake kit (with front cooling ducts) and call it a day.

An M3, especially with DCT, fits every situation.

Id get the 335is use your old mods and call it a day. Forget the dct if you want to go single turbo. Id grt the dct and leave it at the same power as your current car. Who needs 750hp? lol

+1..you would need major suspension/LSD to handle power properly and still wont conform 100% to an M3's balance. But dang I do miss seeing that 17 psi on my boost gauge and getting planted in my seat.

Hi guys thanks everyone so much for the feedback and help! I had a chance to run an ESS 535 supercharged M3 at the track. It was a beautiful car with HRE wheels. No matter what I do with the 335, it will unfortunately never look like an M3! So I need to balance the desire of wanting an M3 for it's looks and balance, with the acceleration potential of the 335. In this category on this particular day, the 335's were shining bright. With my light bolt ons (~ $1K in engine mods) and full weight, I ran neck and neck with the ESS 535 M3. Shiv's single turbo n54 335 was there and beat an 880 HP Vette and a Ferrari 458. He also took me out for a spin and the experience was euphoric.

The only decision I've made is that I can't get the single turbo with the 335is + DCT. The DCT just won't hold it. Shiv says my auto will hold it and he's installing the same turbo on 2 autos next month.

So I will either keep my car and install the turbo or go the M3 route. I will need to decide between (in my opinion) one of the most beautiful cars ever made which is also one of the best balanced cars out there, or the absolute brutal acceleration of the single turbo 335.

what mods do you have to make 425whp for 1k ?? Also what did the race looked like against the VT1-535(+460whp) !!?

I have the Vishnu PWM Meth kit and DCI plus I upgraded an old Procede for about $1K plus tax. Also have a old used set of RR dp's off a friend's 135 for free. I would think the retail price of all that stuff new is like $2,200.

As far as the race goes, at the end of the 1/2 mile it was dead even. I guess as expected, the torque advantage of the 335 provided me with the initial jump at the cones (we did a 2nd gear start around 40mph) and I was maybe 10 feet ahead initially. Also as you would expect, the M3 crept during the entire run. but I guess what was unexpected was that the M3 didn't creep that much, and as I mentioned, we ended the run dead even at around 140 mph. Robert, the driver (not owner) of the M3 is a great guy and took footage so I hope he posts it so I can see from another vantage point.

ahhh , well even for 2200$ that's a lot of fun for the bucks !! I'm a bit disapointed to ear your story with the VT1 ,even if your car has a lot of hp . I'm still debating if I buy this kit ! Was it a manuel or DCT , stock x pipe or modified ? I know 40mph is a little low in rpm with my manuel to start a race but still ... I hope you have a video of that , really interested in seeing a VT1 on a long run like this , not a lot of video of that set-up ! Thanks for the info !

It was a 6MT and I don't know what other supporting mods it had. DLS just mentioned in another thread that it made 471 wheel HP SAE. I think it must have been heat-soaked for me to keep up with it. I didn't heat soak as bad since I'm running meth (65/35 meth/water mix).

Oh and by the way, if you go with the Terry Burget set up: Jb4 + WW meth kit + DCI - those 3 parts sell in a package for around $800. So the results could have been the about the same with a stock 335 + $800 in total mods.

Interesting race.

I'd also like to see the vids.

However, I wouldn't consider a 335 with dp, tune and meth to have "light bolt ons".

Especially if the 535 didn't have a cat delete and was running on 91

Sorry...I meant light bolt-on (LBO) plus meth. I guess it's a way of discerning from full bolt-on (FBO) plus meth. I'm missing a lot of stuff to be full bolt-on...intercooler, mid pipes, exhaust, DV's...and maybe a couple other small things.
