Ideal mileage for Supercharger upgrade??
I have a CPO 2008 M3 DCT with just over 50k miles and the 100k extended warranty to go with it. Is there anything I need to consider at this mileage or am I good to go?

Trying doing a search on this forum if you can (I'm mainly on my phone and don't have the search feature) because I think it has mentioned on here before how the 2008 year cars had weaker motors or something. You can still add boost just some of the lower power rating ones. Like the ess 535 or gintani stage 1. Although of you paid for the extended coverage you would obviously just be flushing that down the toilet. As far as mileage is concerned, I supercharged my car with less then 5k on it and it has been fine. I believe many members on here have added superchargers at all sorts of different mile marks and for the most part there hasn't been any issues

I think what ever your current mileage is... is the right mileage for a supercharger.
![]() Okay, at least get by the 1200 mile break-in period..

50,001 miles or 4 years and 1 day.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

We usually recommend you have a fresh set of plugs in the car etc.. so as long as you are up to date on your normal maintenance you are good to go

Dang man, I'm not an expert but I could have sworn other members have commented on how the early motors are not as strong as the newer ones. What they mean by strong I'm not sure. Hopefully someone with better knowledge can chime in

been on the forums never heard about 08's having weak motors, what exactly was changed? dosent make sense for the motor design to change if there are no serious issues with the 08's to begin with.

So 08 with 30k miles and a fresh set of plugs should be good to go? 535 kit then in a year upgrade to 575 or 600..

It is widely believed that BMW put different rod bearings in 07-08 M3 engines vs the other years. If you do some checking, the part numbers are the same, and BMW isn't saying very much to dispute the notion, further adding fuel to the fire. For '07-'08 cars, ESS actually recommends changing the bearings to the latest available when using the VT-625 kit and above. http://www.esstuning.com/products/E9...er-System.html There are members w/'08 cars that are running that kit w/out changing the bearings, however. |

The bearing issue is universal amongst all years, although from what I've been told the newer motors are more bulletproof than the early models. There are cars with the latest available engine updates that are still experiencing failure (ie 2010, 2011+ S65's) of the main/rod bearings. If you want the power, don't be hesistant to supercharge your car - after doing the blower I would sell this car before I had to drive it stock again. Just be open minded and be prepared to pay in the case that something goes wrong down the line.
You are 100% wrong (there is a reason why ESS and other supercharger companies recommend early production M3's get the latest spec rod/main bearings installed before installing the blower) |

I thought I heard about the problem as well, I had spoke to someone at active and they had advised me to go with a tuned down version of there stage 2 kit because of the early production date of my m3. I only have 22k miles on my car and am hoping to be able to supercharge it soon!

I have 08, and got ESS 575 at 50k miles, now at 53k miles and tons of smiles
I heard early 08's have a bearing that has a tendency to brake... I hope not mine, I think my car was made somewhere late may/june. |

The S65 is quite the amazing engine.
At 50K, we'd recommend new spark plugs if they haven't already ben changed (usually @ 30-35K mi). It's also a good idea to replace O2s as preventative maintenance. Feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions on supercharging.
