Rigid Collar - Subframe Collar Kits for E9X M3

Rigid Collar Company is owned by Spoon Sports in Japan.

The Sub Frame Rigid Collar kit is simple to fit and low cost, Rigid Collars ease into position without affecting the basic geometry of the body. The way the Rigid Collar works is simple. Bolt holes through the chassis panel and sub frame are too big as they were designed for ease of production in the factory. When the car leaves the factory, everything is new and tight and the chassis hardly moves. After a while, the bolts become slightly looser and movement between the panels begins. This is why an older vehicle fitted with new bushings, Shocks and springs, still doesn't behave like a new car.

The Rigid Collar is an aluminum washer (as per photo) with a square outside Taper to increase adhesion on the Thinner flange portion in the middle. This fits between the moving panels and with a properly sized bolt (and Bolt Hole as part of the Rigid Collar) is crushed into place when tightened, joining the two panels and stopping movement forever.

^ +1 ..where exactly on the chassis does this kit fit both front and rear subframe also wouldnt NVH be increased...

These can be installed on any milage car. The primary function as shown in the video is to get rid of the slop in the subframes. It does not make any more harsh of a ride, but just keeps the subframes better in place where they could normaly shift under load.

cool product but a bit skeptical. I don't buy into the subframe shifting part during driving as this would shear the subframe bolts in no time. However, I like the thought that these work like dowel pins to align the chassis with the subframe. But then, wouldn't the flange almost like adding a shim between the chassis and subframe and effectively changing the geometry of the suspension? Would it be more effective if the flange are machined off so these are exactly like dowel pins instead before installation?

The subframes can only move small amounts in high load situations, so were not talking about extreme movements where bolts would sheer off. I t basically just cuts down the amount of slop in the subframe to unibody. The flange area is so thin that it almost acts like a crush washer and fills any imperfections once compressed.

What additional detail were you looking for? I'll see what i can dig up. Unfortunately i dont have any detail shots on the M3 in particular.
