NY state exemptions for track cars?

Guys,

I am thinking about getting a track car and was wondering if there was any way I could register it for limited road use (to and from the track as opposed to having to trailer it). The car does not have cats but has all the required safety and signaling equipment.

Thank you.

In NYS a "limited use vehicle" has a maximum speed of 40 mph or less.

You will have to register your track car if you intend to drive it to and from the track. Unfortunately, the modification that you have made to the car's emissions system may make it inelligible for registration.

Appreciate the input. Would it be as simple as putting on a set of cats to qualify or would it be more?

Here's a source with which you can start as you evaluate your track car's potential of passing a NYS vehicle inspection: http://www.dmv.ny.gov/broch/c-50.htm

See 6-7 of the NYS vehicle registration form (http://dmv.ny.gov/forms/mv82.pdf) as well: as you know, you'll have to certify that the vehicle is in compliance with NYS's Vehicle and Traffic laws.
