M3 V8 durability?

I was reading that BMW apparently is no longer offering extended maintenance and extended warranties on their M vehicles. I also heard BMW isn't going to CPO it's new M vehicles. Anyone else heard this? If this is true, depreciation would take a substantial hit. Does BMW know something we don't, such as these new racing motors, the V10 and V8, aren't going to hold up past the warranty period and thus BMW isn't going to cover the extreme costs to fix them?

This is just rumor... I dont see why the V8 or V10 wouldnt be as well built as the previous M motors

This sounds like nonsense to me. You can think of an extended warranty like an insurance policy. One can always insure anything; it's just a matter of how much of an insurance premium one is willing to pay. Same applies to extended warranties. If there was a higher risk of failure associated with M class engines, the extended warranties would simply cost more to account for that risk.

if anything these are better made than those of the E36/E46... the V10's and V8's are built independently at M GmBH, not at normal BMW factories. Furthermore, they are all hand assembled by single technicians.

My buddy had nothing but issues with his M5 V10. He thought it was ridiculous that he had to carry a quart of oil in the trunk of his $100K car. Hopefully it will get smoothed out.

strange. i've never had a single problem with my M5 V10. no oil burning... never needed any service or special treatment other than regular oil changes etc.

+1... and on top of that, they are manufactured using the tooling and foundries that BMW uses to build their 19,000 rpm Formula 1 V8 engines.

That on top of carefull hand assembly makes for zee nice power plant.

I like BMW for many years especially the Ms, but the the fact is the quality of material used in current BMW are built nowhere near like the old BMWs used to be.

The E30M3 and E34M5 are more heavy duty built in comparison to current M offerings, but the technology of current BMW of course far more advance.

I have friends that work for BMW dealers at sales and service , BMW prep center at Oxnard, and also those operates as independent BMW service. I heard new stories from time to time about this subject

obviously technology makes things more sensitive. the E30 M3 and E34 M5 also didn't have 8400 RPM redlines or 12.5:1 Compression Ratios.

most of the problems with the M5's were with the SMG tranny (in the beginning) it also had a problem with the SMG II on the E46 M3 when it first came out...
it was a new tranny you gotta expect issues...

I would really like to know why the quality of materials in older Ms is superior to the materials used in the new ones????? Especially when the new M is coming with things like a Composite Roof, Forged Aluminum drive shaft, and an all aluminum engine.... Things no previous M3 has had!

Consider yourself lucky. He actually returned it to the dealer via the "lemon law". Not BS!

M engines are built in the normal Munich engine Factory, buy M specialists
