M3 vs. M5 vs. M6

I'm all over the M3, no question about it. I can't wait until next year when they come to America. In meantime, I'll just have to live vicariously through you Euro's.

But anyway to my question, I was at the dealership here in TX this weekend getting my wives 4.6 X5 serviced and as usual it was a multi-hour wait. While I was there the dealer I was at had both a brand new M5 and M6 on the floor. I must admit I have never spent much time forming an opinion on the M6. The M5 I certainly have always liked since they came out with the new verision. But anyway what do people on the board think....if money was a none issue, what would people pick the 3, 5 or 6? Which of the three will have the best pure sports car charateristics?

cheers

of the three i'd take the M6 for baller status but the M3 would be the most fun drive... it won't be far off in speed terms. but it will handle worlds better.

I like smaller cars. Lighter, nimbler, and quicker to wash. If I want a coupe in M6's range I will opt for an Aston Martin, given money is not an issue.

From a pure status point of view I will take the M3! Why? Because you canít get them, the production is very limited, any one can get a 5 or a 6 but only the special few will have the new M3. (This may change in a few years but for now the M3 for me).

I would choose an M5 over an M6 (even if it was a 100 000 for an M5) For the looks unless I always tracked the car
But i swear now the M3 is comming I choose the M3 over both of them

For me it's every time the same. Once the M3 is launched (at least pictures like now) the M5 (and also the M6) looks dated.
Or to steal a Ferrari slogan: The best M is always the latest M...

My neighbor, a semi-professional race car driver, says that M6 is just too big and too fat to be considered a sports coupe. He said he would get one if he was 60. FYI, he has a Ferrari.

ATG's neighbor is right, if you're looking for a "sports" car M6 is not a good choice at all, M5 is even heavier. The problem with the horse power race going on between car manufacturers is while the cars are getting more powerful they are also getting porkier.
People with money end up paying a lot for useless power which only entitles them to bragging rights.
If a "pure sports" car is what you're looking for, you're not going to find it at the BMW dealership. Try Lotus for reasonable money or if money is no object head to a porsche dealer and drive away in a GT3.

Just as when the E46 M3 came out and stole the show from the E39 M5 the new M3 will do the same.......

The best M is the latest M.......yes..........and when the E92 M3CSL launches people will turn all their attention to that........

Wait for the next generation M5/M6. That is the reason they have 2 cars in the showroom waiting to be sold. I have seen the same at many other dealers.

M3. You can't turn DSC all the way off in the 6 speed M5/M6's and I don't want SMG.

The history of ///M cars (except for M1) is all about "wolf in sheep’s clothing".

No matter M5 or M6 are heavy or 'fat'... that's the idea: a sport car + a saloon.

And I'll get the M3, just because money IS a F* issue.

Ps: Aston Martin is not like Ford's... neither now or previously.

If money is not the Issue i would take a M5 as daily cruiser. A porsche Turbo conv to have fun. and a porsche Cayenne turbo. for the wife.
