mother turning 50; gift ideas?

my mom turns 50 in a couple weeks. i'm already taking her to cabo, but i need some gift ideas for her. she's the lady that already has everything, so shopping for her is nearly impossible. if she wants something, she just buys it kinda thing. i'm also terrible at shopping for anyone's gift. left to my own devices, i just get gift cards for everyone. i would like to spend somewhere up to $1000 on a gift. she's very hip and cool for a 50-year-old mother of 2, but also does things like knit in her free time. sort of all over the spectrum. any ideas?

I was in the same boat, so do something personal.

If you didn't have a dollar what would you do for her. When I was young I wrote my mom a poem and it's her favorite gift. Albeit shitty poem, stuff like that they love.

Some sort of photo book, etc.

let's not focus on creativity, because i don't have any. i don't keep hardly any photos at all anyway. i would rather just buy her something nice for putting up with my crap all these years.

For my mom's 50th, I got her golf lessons. Always made little hints about how she would like to be able to go with me, and gets frustrated when she isn't at least proficient at something. Now, it's one of her favorite things to do, and we take a week golf trip 2 times a year. Not sure if that would be something she has any interest in doing.

I don't think you can ever buy the perfect present but I agree with Collins.
Go raid her house and steal as many pictures, notes etc. from your childhood or any other significant event in your life and take them to a good frame shop and tell them you want something put together for your Mom's 50th.

They should have experience doing stuff like this and would be glad to take your money.

We might know you as Blake Carrington CEO of Amalgamated Zepplin and Auto Gyro pioneer but you will always be her little boy

she went through a golf playing phase, but i think her back has too many problems for that anymore.

+1 great idea.

Do something thoughtful. Going along the photo idea, if you have a lot of photos to work with make it theme based. Maybe an activity that meant a lot to her, or a period of time, etc; something that she used to enjoy but doesn't indulge in anymore. Then get her something that links that to the present. Like if she was into golf, get her a new set of her favorite brand of clubs. etc. This is where your knowledge of mom comes into place.

I got my mom a diamond journey necklace for her 50th. Symbol of our journey thru life together, blah, blah, mushy. She loved it tho.
