M3 Production Delays

My car was scheduled for production the last week of January, but didn't get produced. My dealer says there must be a production delay at BMW and we should find out more in the next 10-12 days. Is anyone else experiencing this or is this common? Not stoked to have a production week, but no production.

I was delayed twice. Week 50 confirmed production bumped back to week 1, then bumped back again to week 4. The car is done awaiting a ship. I probably wont see it until mid/end of march. I ordered at the beginning of November. I am beyond fucking pissed off. I sold my car already and am sitting here with nothing to drive. The reason I passed on an S4 was I didnt want to wait 4-5 months. Of course BMW has no explanation whatsoever. Seriously hating this car before it even shows up.

Wow, I ordered in September, did ED in December and got my car here over two weeks ago. That production week is crazy late and delay is also crazy...
Are you sure its just not the dealer pushing back your production date?

It's too bad you're seeing a delay. It's worth it though. I own an Audi RS 4 at the moment and I'm heading off to trade it in for an M3 that I stumbled upon this week at a local dealer. It just so happened to be equipped with identical features in the identical color options I would have ordered so with no wait time for me, I get to pick mine up today.

I've driven both and by far, the M3 Chassis design is superior. Ride is equal on both - Audi did a nice job tuning the suspension for a smooth, luxurious ride but with a sporty feel to it. Handling though, is another story. The Audi's front end is heavy and it feels that way. Steering control is noticeably variable meaning that at slow speeds, steering effort is very easy - almost too easy and lacks a sporty feel. Steering at higher speeds tightens up which is expected and that's when you notice the handling in turns to be improved.

Acceleration off a stop is MUCH better with the M3 DCT than the Audi 6MT. The M3 with the 6MT is nearly identical in acceleration on a straight line.

To the OP and LimiTed...

Take a deep breath, meditate, think about Cheerios or something completely unrelated to cars and the time will go by a little faster (as long as friends and family don't keep asking you if you're on the countdown!). I've been waiting a week since I found the car and test drove it, to go back and pick it up and it's been the longest week of my life so I know what you're going through.

It will be worth the wait!

Good luck with the delivery!

This is a bummer. I just ordered mine last week....I wonder how long I'll have to wait.

Question

Strange?!?...I placed my order just before xmas`11. I actually wanted as late a production date as possible since I preferred to take delivery in March...and bang the damn thing was done in and on the boat in late Jan. Tracking says it's shipping to the dealer Monday so I'm likely taking delivery next week...

I wish I had the "delay" issue.

Am I reading this right?!

-No production week available 1/27/12 at 10:48:43 AM: Code 111
-Order Accepted at AG 1/12/12 at 3:33:50 PM: Code 112
-Scheduled for daily production pack 1/23/12 at 4:57:16 PM

Production Dates: [Yr/Mo/Wk]
Quota [Yr/Mo]: 2011/12
Req. Prod: 2011/12/50
Sub. Req. Prod.: 2012/02/06

Looks like my week 50 is now week 6. I assume that's what "Sub. Req. Prod." means; can this 8 week delay be possible or am I reading it wrong?

I ordered my car in November, got Allocation the first week of December and I still have no damn idea when my car is coming. You never know how much you miss a BMW until you don't have one.

Whoa! What was your production week? Or did your dealer just not have an immediate allocation?

The Dealer didnt have immediate allocation, until the first week of December. I waited it out because i was getting a pretty good deal with that dealer that no one else matched.

I ordered my car on december 14 2011 and the BMW website states my order is being process. It's been like this for 2 months. Is this normal? I'm seriously contemplating on canceling my order.

My last car was a 535i that I built from scratch. The car was done and came in like 4 weeks and ahead of schedule. I also know others who have built their BMW from scratch and havent had any issues. As far as cancelling the order goes, the car I was considering before getting the M3 was a CTS-V. I was very impressed with the car and I have had a few BMWs before, so going from BMW to liking a Cadillac was a big change. I put a down payment on the CTS-V and then went to BMW the next day just to make sure that was the move that I wanted to make. After test driving a used 2009 M3 DCT, I called Cadillac the next day and cancelled my order and then put the down payment on the M3. The M3 is worth the wait unless you are thinking about cancelling the order to get another M3 that a dealer may have in stock, but then you won't have the M3 built the way you want. I think everyone who had allocation in December in NY is delayed. Which dealership did you order from?

i was actually thinking of going for the CTSv but I'm not too sure. i actually found the m3 i want but its in Virginia. i called for prices but the lease programs changed on me. I currently have my lease locked for $830.00 a month 15k miles 36 months. only taxes upfront with bank and dmv fee. a total of $4600. when i called the lease rate went up to 920 a month. i checked with several dealers and they all giving me the same figures. i ordered my car from a orange bmw in jersey. I've called BMW and no one has an actual wait time. they give me the same bull stating that my car is going into production next week. i guess ill wait but if it passes march I'm going to flip on them. the wait better be worth it since I've never driven an m3.

Have you tried calling BMWNA to see what they say on the production schedule? Also be aware that dealers are given certain allocations based on sales history. Unfortunately there are dealers who will "sell" you a car that they know they don't have a production slot for. It could be one or two moths before they have an available slot for your car. In all fairness they should be upfront about this but telling a potential buyer that the wait will be two months longer than expected may drive them away so they simply don't tell you...

My dealer is upfront. The problem appears to be delays at BMW. I have an allocation and a production week... from 8 weeks ago. Oddly, BMW NA told me my dealer could give me more info then they could. They couldn't even tell me the production week ha

Guess what? I just heard from my dealer. My 2011 week 50 production that originally was delayed until 2012 week 3, then week 6, is now scheduled to be produced in early MARCH!!! Yes, really. I'm going to look at GT-Rs after work. That is all.

Ha after I posted that I looked up the new MSRP and was shocked! Base is now $96k!? Black edition is $106k!? Seems like just yesterday it was in the lower 80s..

yup....I was hoping/expecting high 80's/low 90's for a new 2013, but it didn't work out.

The other thing that pushed me to the M3 was the service....high BMW vs Nissan.

I thought about the C63 AMG also, but our Mercedes dealer sucks....

The GTR was my first choice but that's a car I would buy and not lease. I would also need a daily car since the GTR would be a car I would drive on the weekend. Maybe in a year or two I would get my hands on a GTR, but for now I guess I'll wait for my M3 since i already got parts for it.
