navigation map upgrade

I have 2011.5 E93 (post sep 2010) production which has 12k on the car so far. still not gone for first service. But now more than one year old how do we get the Navigation Map upgrade? if there is one? is it part of the software upgrade? But you know how they just dont do software upgrades unless there is a problem.

You will have to pay for a map update. It's got nothing to do with the cars firmware.

It's about $300 at the dealers for 2012 maps, or there may be 'other avenues' to go down for a cheaper option
