Man, all this talk about exhaust and loudness is getting me interested in modding. When forum members told me that I'd catch the mod bug, I thought they were crazy. Now I'm like, maybe I can just change the exhaust so that I'm heard. Shit!!! I gotta quit this forum.

Don't get a Delete-R. Just get a tune you can flash back to stock if needed.
You can also get rid of the start up loudness with a tune; that's the main time it's loud.

I was also thinking about Akra, then I found out about the OEM Exhaust mod. For less then $500 (I bought another OEM Exhaust incase I didn't like it) I got the sound I wanted without dropping $$$$$. I did the ACM method. Like you said, 414 is enough HP for me. Granted, I would like to save some weight, but it wasn't crucial in my decision making.

Yea but isn't it a problem flashing back to stock then going into dealer service with cel on? That was my worry they would record the code

I'm between the M performance exhaust and the EVO. It appears that most who have it are really happy with their MPE's looks and sound, but I would like to have the increase in hp the EVO gives, and also looks awesome. Not to mention the weight savings. The thing is that I'm afraid also that the EVO is too loud. I've heard both through videos but have not had the opportunity to hear them in person. How bad is the EVO's smell?

I would never give up the cold start cycle, the sound emitted from my exhaust at that time is sex on wheels

Back on topic, if you can afford to do it right then go the full system route and just run the Delete R for the time being....

I'm sure my neighbors don't like it.
But I'm an old guy living in a nice neighborhood.

And the smell is significant enough I'd get nervous if a motorcycle cop pulled up behind me.

The evo is not loud, it gives the car a nice classy growl. It is stock like quite at cruising speeds on the hiway.

The car has little smell at cold start and I never notice it after that.

Get a tune to get rid of the cold start and you are good to go

You will have to convince TÜV as well, because the Evo doesn't have ABE.

There are people here who got it registered (Einzelabnahme), but it is very expensive 400-500€. I'm also very interested in the Evo, but it is quite expensive at the end and you might have problems with the warranty. I see that your car is also new and still under warranty, don't you worry about that?
You can also send me a PM.

A full exhaust with primary cat delete, along with an intake and ECU tune is the way to extract optimal normally aspirated power within a reasonable cost.

On the M3, if you are not willing to delete the primary cats, you are wasting your money on anything else in terms of real power gains if you are staying normally aspirated.

Let's take it one step further also. Even if you get a small power gain, will this lead to any measurable performance gain? You need to see about an 8-10% increase in power before you will be able to see any consistently measurable performance gain.

Sound is a different matter entirely. This is all personal preference. Be certain that you are okay with the low rpm drone that may come with some systems. Again, this is subjective. One person will say the drone isn't bad, another will say it is horrible.

Finally, there is the issue of emissions testing. Depending on your state, you may or may not pass emissions. Even if you can get software to shut off the CEL, without primary cats you will still fail the "readiness" part of the test.

Most or all of these issues won't exist with an axle-back, but you will get basically no power gain either. It is purely for looks and sound.

Why not just get the MS Stage 2 Intake? Sounds awesome when you step on it and gives you 8-10 peak rwhp. Roughly the same is you were to just get a slip on, and only cost $500.

The MS intake is a joke. The stock intake is more than sufficient with an aftermarket filter like the AA Green filter. I wouldnt waste $500 to put in a cheap plastic intake system that has the potential to deformed under high temperature and let unfiltered air through into the engine. And for all that, you really think you'll get 8-10 rwhp? Keep dreaming. Just like intake scoops, it is just a marketing gimmick. The topic is slip on vs. EVO and I can say the EVO's gains are real, not some bs dyno sheet. When I trapped 116mph last week at the track, that is real. When I dynoed 345whp, that shows how much variation there is in dynos and reinforce the notion that comparing dyno sheets is a waste of time.

I never said the Evo does not perform. I actually love the Evo system. However, the OP was talking about just the slip on. And while the slip on is nice - nice sound and some weight saving - it just doesn't produce much HP for $2000+. What you are paying for is essentially the sound factor.

As for MS Stage 2 intake - many people have it with dyne figures showing the proven 8-10 rwhp. So why would you say its a joke made from plastic. What would you want it to be made of? Its a charge pipe - plastic seems very logical. Even pulleys give you roughly 10 peak hp for $500.

As far as pure performance for the $ goes. You can get pulley+MS stage 2 for $1000 and it will definitely give you more power than $2500 Akro slip on. Show me otherwise
