Post e90 M3 Race Car Project Thread

Hi All -

After the successes of our e46 M3 and 135i race car projects, driver Ralph Warren talked me into trying and e90 M3. I figured I had at least one more race car build left in me.

So we'll try to document the build, development and racing progress for you on this thread. We've already started the process so I'll try to keep things in correct chronological order as I post.

For this project, we'll be teaming up with Maxxis Tire and their brand new R-Compound tire, the RC-1, which will be available soon:

But before we can do anything, we need a car. What we found is a wrecked, salvage title (what better to gut and turn into a race car) 2008 e90 sedan in Silverstone with manual and only 11K miles on the drivetrain.

The plan is to build the car as a G-Prepared car in the BMW Club Racing series.

More pics of the 'donor' car. The damage is more extensive than at first glance (frame, rear subframe damage and more), but because we don't have to worry about taking it all the way back to a pristine steet car, we thought we could save her.

Isn't having a completely bent frame not a good start to a race car? can't see how that can ever be fixed to be as strong and rigid to handle as OEM new. I didn't think a bent frame was a good platform for a race car is my point.

Welding in a full roll-cage will address that issue. They just need to make sure the suspension mounts (thus subframe) are prope.

Along these lines, anyone see the article about the Euro Teen that took the Z3M and made her a racer? It was pretty busted up. Found the link here. I love seeing these things come to life and cannot wait to see what you guys do with her.

Here in California, you need someone with access to the insurance/wholesale auctions (so a dealer) to be on the look out for you. Paul Kramer at Auto Kennel helped us find this car. If you are outside the US, there may be possible export complications.

Thanks for the info bro. I have my best friend in Cali so no export complications shall arise. My shipper will pick the car up from him if i can find one. I will contact Auto Kennel and see what they can dig up. Cheers and GL with the project, its gona be awesome!

Believe me, we didn't enter into it lightly. We probably talked to about a half dozen body and frame shops before we decided to make a go of it.

So before all the body and frame work could happen, we started stripping the car down and get the rear sub frame out
