Google, Wikipedia, Craigslist in danger...
Heard of this going on yesterday, but I just saw this today (Read on to find out):
https://www.google.com/landing/takeaction/ Go to the following sites as well. They too havedecided to raise awarness: --> sfbay.craigslist.org (or any craigslist site) --> wikipedia.com (After choosing english on the website, it loads up and shows that they have shut the site down for 24 hrs to increase awareness. Together, we can put a stop to PIPA (Protect IP Act) and SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act). Help sign the petition guys.

petition signed. Also, if you want to use wikipedia, just add "?banner=none" without the quotes to the end of the url.

I have to give these sites props for actually showing us what it'd be like if that legislation passed. I don't think I would have considered signing the petition otherwise. |

The way the stupid law is written this site will be shut down as well, with all the people here who post all kinds of information, link and pictures from god knows where and who really owns the rights. Everyone here will be forced to prove they own something before it can be posted, forget about fair use, no website in the US would want to be caught in a legal battle that is for sure. Then those site which are off shore will be just blocked from US access, so in stead of the WWW growing it will begin shrinks like someone asses who is about get rod jammed up it.

I honestly think you're right...
If people somehow miss this and this were to somehow get passed then I see riots in the streets literally the next day. ACLU would be all over this as well protesting for freedom of information. It is important that they are getting the information out though and making everyone aware.

Yeah may or may not pass, however, they pass similar laws which people thought would never pass such as the patriot act and the law which allows government to eavesdrop without necessarily get a court order. Face it the idiots we now have in government still yet to understand what the internet is all about. Plus there is big money behind pushing this bill through, Oh no one thought the idiot would pass a health care bill.

If anyone wants the facts, check out this page: http://www.pcworld.com/article/248298/sopa_and_pipa_just_the_facts.html
I'm not advocating for or against SOPA, but I was having a hard time finding any factual background on these bills (SOPA / PIPA), other than reading the bill language, which I also did. But I thought this was a pretty unbiased analysis. I do think that this whole discussion is pretty interesting...and think the dynamics between two typically Democratic constituencies (Hollywood / Tech companies) is even more interesting. |

This. Can't believe it's even gotten this far. United States Business > Hollywood/Music. Not to mention, it would be closer to "socialism" than any other plan so far. China, anyone?
Hollywood/Music are just throwing a temper tantrum because they weren't smart enough to take advantage of the Internet, and they're regretting their deals with Apple, Netflix, and Amazon. It's a juvenile "revenge" situation.
